2022 Season

PreviousPage 45 of 87Next

Well, the Gore collapse finally happened today.  You could see it coming over the last few starts.  From a BB rate of 2.8 in late May, zoomed to 4.3 in late June.  K-BB% over the same period went from over 19% to below 15%.  Lastly, his GB/FB ratio changed from 1.33 to 1.07 and heading further into the hard hit fly ball out area.  Might need some time on the IL or back in the minors (San Antonio please) or both.  Don't want to lose all that confidence that was built up over the earlier part of the season, but been far less effective and efficient for the last month or so.

Time for a traditional 5 man rotation with Gore in the BP ..FB should tick up in Pen making everything right again 1 2 3 innings max .. or can flip Martinez to Gore's spot and Gore to N Mart's role

Does sound that the groundwork is being done to cut back Gore’s workload with his clear loss of velo and command.

I guess a case may be made to option him to the minors (but really just shut him down) soon and take advantage of that coupled with the All-Star break to give him a full rest. Looks as though Morejon is one rehab appearance from being recalled and would support the LHRP role.

As it stands, he would have one start before the break, so if they skip that start with the break and the rotation re-shaped during the break … he could have over 2 weeks of down time then maybe return in a limited role if desired.

Garcia is the new Pagan. He looks unhittable with amazing stuff but some how gives up crucial runs at the worst time . We need our injured relievers back ASAP and find a way to minimize Garcia. I hope we don't see him in a close game in Colorado because I fear he will do it again . With Pom , Wilson , Suarez and hopefully Johnson back soon he may be a DFA candidate because he has n trade value .

Probably does have trade value … some real bad RP out there and he comes at a relatively low cost.

In our last 7 losses we've scored a total of 9 runs.

Yikes.

Knehr having himself a season when called upon... now 8.1 IP 0 R ..0 BB.. 0.00 ERA only 3 hits allowed

Crone Zone selected to the All Star game Congrats Jake!

Voit 2022

vs RHP .234/.308/.413 .721

vs LHP .185/.315/.247 .554???

Voit career

vs RHP .262/.352/.500 .852

vs LHP .248/.337/.461 .798

WTF vs LHP is going on?? His OBP vs lefties is hardly off.. the BA and SLG is beyond baaaaddd.. I wonder of he has an extended correction "hot streak" incoming soon.. even being Petco'd and dead ball you expect maybe a -50 OPS .. say .802 vs RHP..close of he can get his OBP up 50+ points... or his slug and Obp 25 pts each... BUT vs lefties he is close to his career OBP but the SLG needs to come up 180 points

I am more pessimistic on Voit from looking at his decline since his career years in 2019-20 … 2019 the only one when he basically played a full slate (510 PA). Since then (maybe in part to injuries, maybe in part to pitchers adjusting to him) he has declined in performance and games played. Actually think he was hurt in 2020 limiting him to a partial season.

Last year in NY …dropped already to a slash line of 239/328/437 and a wRC+ of 111 and his K% rose prompting the NYY to try to trade him … with no takers.

This year with SD he is in a further decline and at age 31 combined with the PETCO drag on power hitters and the new ball … and his K% is rising.

Pretty convinced the league and age has caught up with him and 2021 in NY may have been the turning point. If there was a better current alternative I would go that route and not bet on a Voit resurgence. At $5.5MM not going to find takes in 2022 so likely an non-tender in the winter for CBT room and a better FA signing.
