I would not expect one until tomorrow morning ... the last minute within the MLB rules.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on April 6, 2022, 8:56 amI would imagine they want to see if any moves come to fruition before setting the roster. They probably don't want to tell anyone they have made the roster just to have to take it back or tell them they've been traded later.

Quote from fenn68 on April 6, 2022, 9:10 amMaybe a small factor ... if they moved a player off the roster AFTER they had optioned another player they wanted to replace him on the roster ... they would have to recall the replacement player but would have burned an option year (and one of the max 5 minor league options in 2022 per player).
Makes some conservative sense to not make any moves / announcements until the very last moment allowed by MLB rules to maximize flexibility.

Quote from Randy Manese on April 7, 2022, 12:39 pmHosmer opening the season at 1b versus Bumgarner? It would be a Melvin move to do it (also allows Alfaro to relieve Nola if Nola gets hurt). Probably, Grisham, Machado, Cronenworth, Voit, Myers, Hosmer, Nola, Profar and Kim to start the game, in that order.

It's Opening Day "and" Hosmer has had good success against MadBum.
I suspect he will sit against most lefties.....I hope anyway?

That sounds on target to me.
Probably not going go see Alfaro much except as a catcher (maybe 60 starts), and some PH late in games. With only 2 catchers … neither Nola nor Alfaro should be used at DH since if the catcher is injured and they have to use the other … they lose the DH for the rest of the game.
IF they want to “rest” Hosmer for a RHH … could see Nola / Alfaro at 1B with Voit remaining at DH.

Quote from Randy Manese on April 7, 2022, 2:04 pmWhoa - Nola leading off; didn't see that coming. Might be an opportunity for Abrams, however, to get to the top of the line-up later in the game. Melvin is very creative. Don't think you'd ever put Hedges there!

Edit: Never mind...found it.

Quote from fenn68 on April 7, 2022, 2:48 pmLHH at #3 - #6 - #9 … nice spacing to minimize the effect of a LHP in any single inning.

Quote from 3fingersplit on April 7, 2022, 3:32 pmOn paper it sure looks like the Pads should get the win......the 8,9,1 is kinda cool......Kim, Grisham and Nola followed by Machado, Cronenworth and Voit with Meyers, Hosmer and Profar.
Opening Day....playing the game on paper is over....gotta get it done on the field
GO PADS!!!
