2022 Season

From rotoworld.com ...

05.15: Padres acting manager Ryan Christiansen confirmed Sunday that BlakeSnell will make his season debut on Wednesday against the Phillies. (Christiansen noted that they'll roll with Mike Clevinger, Snell and Yu Darvish in the three games against the Phillies. He also added that Nick Martinez and MacKenzie Gore will likely work out of the bullpen for the time being. Snell made three starts on his minor league rehab assignment, compiling a 2.77 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 19/2 K/BB ratio over 13 innings of work.)

It’s a good thing we didn’t just stay (so far) around .500 while FTJ is out.

The way the Dodgers and Giants are playing we would have been really far behind.

At first most thought that would be a good goal…..

As we approach the 1/4 season point the Divisions are beginning to take shape….though obviously a lot can change soon….or later.

Looks as if the Dodgers/Mets/Brewers are Division favorites.

That makes our competition for the WC spots the Giants/Cards/Phils/and I’ll include the Braves.

So as your watching game’s new checking box scores every loss for these teams matter.

Of course I am still expecting the Padres to win this Division and getting some key guys back will be the reason.

That and the Duds pitching…and their lack of Starter depth (esp. compared to ours)is going to let them down.

Edit: will they get Dustin May back this year?

From rotoworld.com ...

Dustin May (elbow) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

May needed Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last summer and is still working through the slow buildup process, but it's likely that the 24-year-old right-hander will be able to return to a major league mound sometime in the second half of the 2022 regular season. He's sitting on a career 2.93 major league ERA.

We really need to get enough runs to get some “blowout” wins for a change.

All these close games is taxing the Pen even with our Starters leading the league in quality starts.

Especially Rogers.

With our Starters going 6-7 consistently if we could score 5-8 runs we could have guys like Martinez and Crismatt pitch 2-3 innings and get everyone else some days off.

Not complaining about winning mind you…..but these close games are taxing my heart….and our Pen.

Let’s get some runs!

Clevinger headed to the 15 day with a triceps strain.

Everything in perspective … to that end the perspective of offense in the ML poor. As a result some of the Padre players who we may not hold in high regard … are comparatively good. Consider:

1. Profar who is currently ranked (by Fangraphs) as the #3 LF in MLB per WAR … derived from being #1 in defense and a surprising #11 in wRC+.

2. Kim who is ranked as the #11 SS per WAR … derived from #8 in defense and #10 in wRC+.

As frustrated as fans may be with the offense out of them … basically 2/3 of MLB are worse for their positons.

———————

On the other hand, think we got Grisham correct as he ranks as the 20th CF (out of 20 qualified) … #20 wRC+ and a surprising low #16 in defense. Always skeptical of dWAR, but defense was what was keeping Grisham in the line-up and without that sets-up us seeing a lot more of Azocar. Don’t see either Myers or Profar to CF … nothing in EP unless they want to try to revive Akiyama … not sure much available via trade … and (if you like long shots) E.Ruiz in AA and tearing it up. IF all the other options are hitting .150 in the ML … maybe?

Ask and you shall receive!

I guess I should have put this in print sooner.

To top it off the Dodgers lose in embarrassing fashion with 2 outs in extra innings on a two run error by Max Muncy.

Couldn’t have happened to a more popular Dodger in Padres eyes.

The Dodgers have to be frustrated if not a little worried.

They had just won 7 games in a row then after ONE loss they find themselves in a virtual tie with the Padres.

We just won’t go away and with this rotation I don’t think we will.

Manny made history.... 1st player ever to hit 3 doubles 1 triple 1 BB and score 3 runs in one game... never been done before in MLB
