I mean….why hasn’t this been corrected?

Surely he knows what a “stretch” is and that it is to shorten the distance the ball has to travel.

What exactly does he think this accomplishes?

My only guess is he thinks he’s getting the ball on a more manageable hop…but it doesn’t help of the guys already safe.

On top of that it just gave Crone an error on what was a great play by him…the throw was a perfect one hopper if he stretches “towards” the ball.

Basically Padres are playing without 3 of their presumed starting 9 and 2 others (Nola / Grisham) are severely under performing their 2021 level. 5/9ths of the line-up not what expected.

Will all 5 return and revert to their norms at some point???? Will that be sufficient to offset the probable decline in offensive support from Machado / Hosmer? I guess that is why we play the next 5 months.

Myers always has some injury that keeps him out for 30-40 games per season as well.

Voit has never been part of the team, and the DH is new to the NL, so while he was expected to be a boost, cant regret what you never had before.

The real hurting difference is Crone, Nola, and Grisham. All 3 were counted on to be productive, and while we all believe that they will bounce back closer to the norms, at least they are not taking their ABs into the field.

With the lower production around MLB offensively, maybe pitching and defense will be the key to ML success this season, and for the most part, that has been going really well for SD this season.

So, yes, basically agree, too early to panic at this time early in the season.

He is expiring and would fit like a glove between Manny/JDM and Hosmer... when Tatis comes back 1-5 of Tatis/Crone/Manny/JDM/Hosmer would be very very solid... Myers would probably have to go in any trade for JDM (match Salaries) + Voit needs a change of scene and maybe the green monster (if he can make contact) could be his ticket to saving him... a 10-15 spec might need to be included to give Sox some future upside but I like the way this plays... then we can worry about what to do next...
