MLB has “deadened” the ball for 2022 … HR are down about 15%.

Clearly we have seen that with balls dying on the track vs. going out. Does that alter the evaluation of some players (to keep or trade for)?

Are some players who had good stats before now become “warning track power” and go down in value? Are some pitchers to have up a lot of HR now become more productive as those former HR are now caught.

Clearly we are seeing a drop in offense (OPS is down) as the teams try to adjust. Maybe this is the point when we see a move away from the HR/K types to the line-drive types. Also, fly ball pitchers may get a new life.

Just interesting sidenotes.....The baseballs are made by Rawlings in Costa Rica and is owned by MLB Properties and Seidler Equity Partners.....yes that Seidler...as in the owner of our Padres

The core has been deadened and the seams are taller as a offset to "Spider Tack" but creates more drag in the air.

Life expectancy of a MLB game ball is 1-3 pitches.....120-150 balls used per game.....900,000 balls used during the season for MLB not counting playoffs and World Series

Still made by hand

Happy Mothers Day -   Thank you for everything Mom

I sure hope so!

I want runners on base, I want stolen bases, I want hit and runs, run and hits, I want situational hitting, I want bunting!

Watching SO many guys K is not entertaining.

A report has Voit back in SD to work with the ML coaches with some expectation that he is activated for the coming road trip.

Maybe all the Ks in EP were quality Ks.🤪

From FanGraphs ...

NL West Standings▼

Team W L W% GB Win Division Make Playoff
Dodgers 19 7 .731 0 71.0% 97.7%
Padres 19 10 .655 1.5 20.3% 84.7%
Rockies 16 12 .571 4 0.0% 1.3%
Giants 16 12 .571 4 8.6% 66.6%
Diamondbacks 15 14 .517 5.5 0.0% 1.7%

Royals and Orioles just finished a 3 game series in Camden Yards in which not a single HR was hit.

First time that’s ever happened there with these two teams….the lack of offense is obvious.

A total of 5 hits in the Rangers/Yankees game today thru 8 innings…..Cortez had a no hitter broken up in the 8th.

If this is all from raising the seams to give the pitchers more grip it’s even more of an advantage to them than using the sticky substances was.

Padres claim INF Alcantara off waivers (not hitter just a body that has been waived and claimed a few times this year)

Beaty to the 10 day IL

Johnson to the 60 day IL (not a good sign) to make room on the 40 man for Alcantra

Voit returns to EP for more rehab AB.

Just guessing but adding a glove type INF to the active roster vs. calling up an OF to replace Beaty ... might signal the expanded use of Abrams in the OF that now is down to Grisham, Profar, Thompson, and Azocar. Plus maybe we get full time work for Kim at SS.

In a roster crunch Alcantara is an easy DFA.

Just what we need…..another non hitter.

We’ve now scored runs in 1 of the last 28  innings we’ve played.

ONE.
