2022 MLB Draft

PreviousPage 19 of 20Next

round 18 ... Romero Sanabria ... LHH C out of Indian River JC.

So potentially 3 teen Catchers in addition to the Intl kid Ethan Salas we are linked too... looks like AJP is collecting young C with very strong arms...

Speaking of Salas found this little Nugget on him

He’s just so damn good,” one NL international scouting director said. “It’s a great body, too. Projectable for the position. Big arm. Loose swing. Chance to get into good power. Serious defensive upside. Family pedigree is there. He checks every single box.”

That same director would go on to say how impressive it is watching Salas match up against guys much older than him.

“The biggest risk in (teenage international prospects) is whether they’ll ever hit,” he said. “Salas has been turning around mid-90s heat since he was 14.”

round 19 ... Spence Coffman ... HS SS

2022 SUNSHINE GULF COAST SHOWCASE

Spence Coffman is a 2022 SS/RHP, OF with a 6-1 174 lb. frame from Corinth, MS who attends Tishomingo County. Showed plus speed with a 6.45 second sixty. Primary short stop with a lean athletic build. Receives the ball out front with soft hands. Gathers at the mid line with a longer shuffle as he gains ground into the throws showing big time arm strength across the diamond at 90 mph. On the mound the arm strength once again stands out with good direction to the delivery working down the mound with good effort in the lower half. The fastball gets some arm side life at 84-89 mph from a lower three-quarters arm slot. Mixed in a changeup with much of the same life as the fastball with a good change of pace in the low to mid 70's. Right-handed hitter, swings with real intent showing above average bat speed with a mostly linear bat path showcasing pop to the pull side during batting practice as well as picking up extra base hits in game action while using the entire field. Good student. Named to the Sunshine Gulf Coast Top Prospect List. Verbal commitment to the Southeastern Louisiana.

round 20 ... Andrew Vail ... LHP from Rowan U.

Started his college at Maryland ... then to Missouri ... then oblivion for 2022 and was announced from Rowan U. Another guy who has not pitched all that much. So who know?

Heard AJP on the podcast with West and all.. they feel like they will sign all 20..Said the leftover FA there is a few they like..talked about how they found a couple good ones last year like Cummings who is doing well... Touched on how Holliday turned them on to Griffin D (mr513).. and how besides his 80 grade power the thing that jumps out is what a great leader and Teammate he is... etc.. etc... asked about why little IF help..AJP said they feel like they have a lot in the system and the draft sort of took them into a different path BUT really like the 2 they did take later...

6. Padres

San Diego isn't afraid to gamble and exercised two of its top four picks on right-handers coming off Tommy John surgery. Georgia prepster Dylan Lesko (first) was on course to be the first pitcher drafted and Duke's Henry Williams (third) was headed toward the first round before their elbows blew out. Iowa righty Adam Mazur (second) also would have gone earlier had he not had back issues toward the end of the college season. The Padres snared arguably the top high school left-hander, Robby Snelling (supplemental first) with the No. 39 overall choice. Their top position-player pick was Maryland high school Lamar King (fourth), who had late helium

Ranked #6 Draft out of the gate... . Ill take it

Griffin Doersching tweeter #Letsgoslamdiego... I love this dude

Our last pick.. kind of a cool way how he got the Padres interested in him

The last pick, left-hander Andrew Vail, is just the sort of lottery ticket you expect to find on the final day of the draft, whether it was 40 rounds as it was before the pandemic or 20 rounds: A former Missouri pitcher 13 months removed from Tommy John surgery who called up the Padres to ask to attend a regional workout, hit 97 mph and landed on their board as a relief prospect
