Prielipp seems like more of a #2, #3 starter or closer to me. Of course he will make it to MLB much faster than Lesko.
I am OK with getting a legit #2 SP at #39. His HS and early college were very strong ... then 2020 and TJ just let him fade in the rankings. Yeh, he could hit the majors a couple of years sooner than Lesko ... 2025?
I get it. There are a few things about Prielipp that worry me though. #1) His FB tops out at 95. Seeing as how he is coming out of college he is unlikely to gain velocity with maturity or added muscle. #2) His one plus pitch, actually double plus, is a slider which puts lots of strain on an already torn UCL.
I would be okay with Prielipp but I would much rather have Porter if possible. I haven't heard anything about excessive demands from him.

In short, the Dodgers were one of two teams (Padres) that exceeded the $210MM luxury tax threshold for the 2021 regular season. Not only do the Dodgers now owe $32.65MM for the overage, but they will also see their first pick moved all the way back to the second round with the 40th pick.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on July 17, 2022, 7:27 pmWhere does Lesko slot in our top 30?
My personal list Wood/Lesko/Hassell/Merrill/Campy
But MLB
Hassell/Campy/Wood/Merrill/Rosario.. is he our #1? #2? Lower?

For right now ... given he has not played ... probably #5 on draft slot and upside.

Maybe just a real commitment to college vs a firm dollar amount to sign ... maybe a Top 10 level signing bonus. So some team would have to do some real manipulation (off a very large bonus pool) to pull that off ... but could.
Padres probably don't have the under slot money to pull that off.

However, the national listings tend to give extra value to draft selection and projection ... and based on the prospects below him ... not out of the question.

Folks on MLB really liked the pick ... football background and mentality.
