Obviously Tampa Bay gave up on Hunter a bit early. Edwards still a top 100 prospect, too.

Pham has been a bust, but we were fortunate( did ANYONE think Jake would be an All Star?) that Cronenworth has played to the level he has.

The trade worked out GREAT for us though.

Saw a stat where we're getting 2 out of every 3 bad calls. Which doesn't help since we're the most disciplined team in the league as well.

I think 2022 boils down to having the current SP healthy (and effective) … they have the past results so the basic talent is there.

Darvish, Clevinger, Musgrove, Snell, Lamet all have All-Star pedigree (and capable of CY Young votes) … that COULD BE an elite starting 5. Plus Paddack would be still lurking for insurance along with a rested Weathers and potentially the emergence of Gore, Martinez, or Knehr .. and maybe Morejon. Note: I am more concerned about Rothchild’s handling of the staff than Tingler’s management style.

The starting line-up will be fine as will the pen … always want more but the core of the current crop (less Pham) should score enough if the pitching holds up.

Side: pending the new CBA, it appears the owners want to return to the 14 team playoff format and that could shape roster design to focus more on winning in the playoffs and less structuring to get one of two Wild Card slots (or Division). That could be good for the Padres given the LAD remain a power house (although expect SF to drop next year … as I did this year).
