Quote from fenn68 on August 14, 2021, 8:56 pmAZ worst record in MLB … Padres send out their top 3 SP (Darvish, Snell, Musgrove) … Padres drop 3 straight capped by a no-hitter .. enter Sunday with a bullpen day scheduled … Pomeranz has season ending surgery.
I would like to write something uplifting … but just can’t.

Quote from TarheelPadre on August 14, 2021, 9:19 pmI think we can all agree that this season is turning into an absolute train wreck. There needs to be some serious answers to some serious questions this off-season. Everyone affiliated with the Padres should start getting nervous.
I will start with this........I would like to know how our minor league system failed to produce a single SP when the franchise needed one the most.

Good point Tar Heel.
Our system, built entirely by Preller, has ZERO reasonable options in case of emergency. Our highly touted asset appears no closer to San Diego than I am!
I'm sure we're all incredibly confused and frustrated by what's happening right now. But in a results based profession, there needs to be accountability and Preller(and Tingler!)needs to be seriously re-evaluated.
For those who rally that " he built a great farm system", well, where's the proof? Is there even 1 homegrown player contributing to this years team? Yeah he's made some solid deals( FA signee Shields for Tatis, pre-Preller draftee Renfroe for Cronenworth) but at some point, to control costs, YOU NEED TO DEVELOP YOUR OWN PLAYERS!!!!
We will NEVER be better than LA if we can't develop...AND KEEP!...our own talent.
Man, am I frustrated......

We all are ... and ... it's too soon/early to be out on the ledge ... imo ...
Padres got to 17 games over .500 ... then got hit by injuries ... that's the positive spin ... they are still "in the playoffs" (as the 2nd NL WC team) ... can they limp to the finish line? And be healthy for that WC game? And then be healthy for a run thru the post-season?
Maybe 🙂

Quote from fenn68 on August 15, 2021, 9:12 pmThe “great farm system” got the Padres: Nola, Caratini, Frazier, Cronenworth, Pham, Grisham … the Musgrove, Darvish, Snell, Paddack, Pagan, Adams, Hill, Clevinger …. Think the Padres traded 25+ prospects.
A never ending debate on why are we hanging on to minor league prospects who may never make anything of themselves when we need ML players now … we saw that on this forum last winter / at the trade deadline. Some wanted to move anyone not nailed down to get Scherzer (a 2 month rental) to win now.
On the other side a team can’t void the system for a short term gamble on winning it all now since that will end up in that team becoming a bottom feeder for years.
The 2020-21 seasons represent the best record for the team in over 20 years …
