2021 Season
Quote from fenn68 on June 19, 2021, 11:19 amLooking at the 2021 starting pitching … with an eye on 2022 and beyond … current performances and future control may shape some deadline / winter / spring moves. Plus don’t forget “health” messes with any planning and requires insurance:
Musgrove (29 in 2022) … arb 3 (last control year) … 2.28 ERA
Darvish (35 in 2022) …. $20MM (controlled 22-23) … 2.57 ERA
Lamet (29 in 2022) … Arb 3 (controlled 22-23) … 3.33 ERA
Paddack (26 in 2022 … Arb 1 (controlled 22-23-24) … 4.10 ERA
=== setting those up as top 4 SP, then battling for the 5th slot:
Weathers (22 in 2020) … Minimum (controlled 6 years) … 2.47 ERA
Snell (29 in 2020) … $13.1 MM (controlled 22-23) …5.72 ERA
Clevinger (31 in 2020) … $8MM (controlled only for 2022) … DNP
==== couple of thoughts:
With Musgrove, Clevinger FA after 2022 and Darvish, Snell, Lamet FA after 2023, working on multi-year extension with Musgrove makes sense and still an issue with 3 SP going FA after 2023 (hard to replace 3 SP on a contender in one off-season and signing 3 FA of quality will be very expensive).
2024 Paddack, Weathers … then Musgrove if extended … then Lamet if extended … then ???? Padres may have to do some moves earlier than 2023 to ensure they can remain contenders in 2024.

Quote from BoosterSD on June 20, 2021, 4:47 pmI know he doesnt hit much, but Kims defense seems worth every penny that he is being paid. IF we didnt have Tatis at SS, I could live with Kim at SS. Doesnt hit as well as Chris Gomez, but plays much better D.
Great pick up Preller.

Quote from MrPadre19 on June 25, 2021, 4:47 amSo the last time the Padres beat the Dodgers 3 out of 4 the Dodgers proceeded to go into a tailspin.
This time we swept them and they immediately get No Hit at home.
Is this a coincidence?
What does the next 1-2 weeks hold for the Duds?
Let's hope a lot more of the same.....

Quote from WindsorUK on June 26, 2021, 1:09 pmI know by writing this I'm most likely jinxing the team, but have we ever had back to back undefeated homestands?
Going 19-0 over 19 home games must be pretty hard to come by.
Edit: okay, saw we had a stinker of a homestand against NY and Cubs. Still, has the team had 2 undefeated homestands, of this length, in a season before?
