Yeh ... also the HR (both Padres and opposition) are not going deep into the stands (except for the Tatis blast).
Over the winter there was a report that MLB was making some changes to the baseball to attempt to curb the distance on fly balls. Not sure what (if anything) they did but seems distance does seem down. Could just be a phenomenon of the first week in April.
Also, the same report they were considering elevating the seams for a better grip by the pitchers ... again don’t know if they did but that could be a factor in pitchers having more command resulting in less solid contact.

I know the official scorers NEVER would go this way ... but in my book that was a Mateo error. He was in position to make the catch without extraordinary effort ... not a major jump ... ball in play ... and just botched it.
Would see it differently if Mateo was on the dead run ... rammed into the fence ... or was reaching over the fence ... but he was not.

Well, just watched the replay of the home run, horrible. That, plus two more errors this game, for a total of 8 so far this year. Sloppy fielding does not get it done boys. Kim's error cost Snell 5 additional pitches to get out of the inning. It all adds up!!

This would be a good time to remind everyone....I “hate” the runner on 2nd rule.
Should wait until the 12th inning to do it IMO.
Very few extra inning games go past the 12th anyway.

Dbacks / Rox went 13 last night. I left after the 12th, too late.

So Tim Hill is saddled with the loss after allowing basically two Sac. flies.
The infield single he allowed didn't factor.

That'll certainly change the ways W&L's are considered for relief pitchers going forward.

He got charged with an unearned run.....so he has that going for him,which is nice.

Since 2020 ended and the playoffs began quite a change in the pitching staff to start 2021:
Lamet - IL
Clevinger - 60 day IL w/ TJ
Davies - traded to Cubs (1 start ... 3.18 ERA)
Richards - FA to Boston (1 start / 2 innings .... 27.00 ERA ... 7 H / 2 BB)
Paddack - still around
Then in the pen: FA Yates (60 day IL TJ); FA Rosenthal (60 IL thoracic outlet surgery); traded Patino (optioned to minors) ... Padre IL Adams; Altavilla; Johnson; Strahm.
A ton of injuries in that group and under performance ... all that in the space of October to April.
Who is back from a team with one of the best 2020 records and playing: Paddack; Pagan; Hill; Morejon; Pomeranz; Stammen; and Weathers ... amazing turnover.

Grisham with no batting gloves......didn’t he wear them last year?
I thought only Myers went “gloveless”.
