Quote from onlypads on March 4, 2020, 8:21 amIs it really worth the roster space to keep all three. Dozier and Profar appear somewhat redundant.
I may prefer to have Cronenworth as a back up shortstop/RP.
On the other hand, France (not sure if he has options), Vosler, and Cronenworth (among others) in AAA for seasoning is not the worst outcome I guess.

Quote from fenn68 on March 4, 2020, 9:43 amThinking the Padres may be aiming at a veteran bench ... will not play a lot and veterans may be able to handle that and be productive over the course of a season. Put the "prospects" to start the season in the minors to get their ABs and further development for a later call-up.
France does have options as does Cronenworth and not really sure the benefit of having Cronenworth behind Tatis who will play everyday or be used as an arm just for blowouts / extra innings. Profar fills in for the short spells Tatis may be out and if a longer IL type ... Cronenworth is called up and hopefully is sharp from playing every day.

Quote from MrPadre19 on March 4, 2020, 10:29 amBecause of having options I guess I could see Cronenworth in AAA but I still have this feeling he makes the 26 man.
I think Profar is everyday 2b with Dozier as backup and "Cronenworth" as super utility.
Dude can play every IF position AND pitch.(Tingler mentioned this)
As I mentioned before I have no issue with Garcia but I believe anything he can do Cronenworth can do.....and more.
It's just the ability to send him down that may result in it actually happening.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on March 4, 2020, 11:02 amSo looking at the entire potential 26 man Roster and say next 5 up.. If AJP makes a 3 (40man) + prospects type deal ..what position would you want it to be and why/who?....
Thinking out loud Contreras (Cubs) might be the biggest IMPACT .. Figure out OF vould be rather good..and 2B is at least a 3 headed monster.. C I have ?? About Hedges O and Mejias skills behind the plate.. Contreras WAR since 2017 and ability to get on (OBP) makes him elite overall talent and a HIGE upgrade..

Quote from MrPadre19 on March 4, 2020, 11:09 amI really want to see what Mejia will do with the bat with 450+ AB's.
A trade for Contreras would make him the seldom used back up again.
I think we need to know now if he's our starting catcher going forward.
Unless he is in the deal for Contreras....and that might be a little premature in giving up on him.

Despite my general disdain for Contreras' attitude, that would make some sense. The Cubs would almost certainly ask for Lament and/or Campy again, though.

Quote from sportwarrior on March 4, 2020, 12:37 pmOof, poor Morejon got knocked around pretty good that first inning. Ripped single up the middle, crushed dinger (after a possible blown call by the umpire on strike 3), ground out, walk, smoked double, smoked single... Not fooling anyone.

Quote from Commie on March 4, 2020, 6:37 pmSo 13 pitchers and 8 in the field means a 5 person bench. Say Grisham, Myers and Pham are in OF, Hedges is C, and Dozier at 2b this hypothetical day. Bench is Mejia, Garcia, Profar, Almonte or Lagares, and? On current roster/camp France fits best as the needed RH power threat to PH when they can corner a LHRP under the 3 batter rule. But it feels like they will/should go outside the org for a true C and 1b capable vet who can be RH pinch hitter in clutch.
Problem is, who is available that fits that description? Put another way, besides Posey are there any such options?

Players perspective.
My takeaways:
1. Lawson has impressed a few people.
2. Maybe the Pham - Myers connection is what he needed.
3. Gore work ethic is real.
4. Vosler and Cronenworth are legitimate athletes. Athletes recognize athletes!
