Eight wins in a row.......mean nothing.

BUT,it sure beats eight meaningless losses in a row!

Definitely, I concur. Richards looked great. Pitching has been impressive this ST.

It is not clear how the Padres will fit all their starters in this week. They have only outlined their plans through Wednesday.

Garrett Richards is pitching for the first time Tuesday against the Brewers. Adrian Morejon will start Wednesday against the Royals. That is also the game in which Luis Patino, the team’s second-ranked pitching prospect, is scheduled to make his first spring appearance.

It would seem likely Zach Davies or Dinelson Lamet starts Thursday with the other working in relief. One of them could could pitch on a back field instead, or Lamet could start Friday.

Cal Quantrill, sidelined by the flu at the end of last week, will also have to be slotted in the coming days.

Wed:  Morejon starts, 1st appearance:  Patino & Kirby Yates

Thurs:  Lamet starts, Quantrill, 1st appearance:  Gore

Fri:  TBD; likely Davies

The only ST guy I haven't heard mention of anywhere is Ronald Bolanos?  Anyone know what's up with him?

Well covered that they're slow rolling the young SP's, but he's older more experienced... ?

???   Was he hurt in offseason?  Haven't heard his name once anywhere.  Anyone out at ST seen him in uniform?

Good point. Not hurt as far as I've heard. Would think he would be getting in games around this time. Maybe he and Cal have been hanging around together a bit too much and he caught the flu from Q?

Can't imagine pitching at a high level a few days after getting over the flu, if it was really influenza. Had it a couple years back. Didn't have any legs for a month afterwards. Cal back in a day or two. Watch for good first couple batters and then crater. One inning max.

Edit: reminded by onlypads link in trade forum that Tatis is suffering from flu too. Hard to believe it's only him and Cal.

Richards stuff looked wicked today! Especially his slider. This guy has always had some of the best pure stuff in mlb. It looks like it has come back. I can't wait to see how he does this regular season.

That deal with Milwaukee sure is looking good so far. Grisham is surprising me in a good way. I was all worried about CF for nothing. And Davies has done well. Not Ben but Zach. I guess Ben has done well too. 😉

How many innings will the Padres let him pitch this season?

I would guess ... as long as he is pitching effectively ... there will be no innings limit on Richards although the depth of the bullpen may "naturally" keep him from being over worked.

No reason to protect Richards for the future ... he is a veteran FA after the season. However, if the Padres are really in contention, they may manage his game usage to ensure he is viable in September.

2020 will be different than 2019 but looked back at Dozier, Garcia, Profar in gauging the 2B competition.

On a dWAR basis: Dozier (3.4) and Garcia (3.1) are pretty close and a little above average while Profar's throwing issue relegated in to only 0.7. Maybe that is a case for Profar as "super utility" vs. regular 2B.

On a wRC+ basis: Dozier (99) and Garcia (97) are pretty close and about average while Profar settles in at 89. Again a case for Dozier and Garcia being ahead of Profar at 2B.

Take that to splits vs. RHP and LHP:

vs. LHP: Dozier (128); Profar (125); Garcia (52)

vs. RHP: Garcia (103); Dozier (88); Profar (79)

Those stats seem to make the Dozier signing a smart move both offensively and defensively. Dozier gets the bulk of the 2B starts with Garcia strategically used vs. selected RHP and Profar being that "super utility" guy sets-up a good balanced 26 man roster. Tingler will have a lot to work with at 2B and the INF bench.

Maybe it was because of Dozier's signing being late and on a minor league deal but sure seems to be under valued by most.
