2020 In Season Trade ideas

Sutcliffe on the D.Smith show discussing the Padres moves ... as expect positive.
A couple of interesting comments:
1. Big fan of Rothchild and his ability to deal with the situation of two new catchers and handling the pitchers. Has been is similar situations and often allow the pitchers to make the call (especially with runners on 2nd to avoid sign sequence issues).
2. Actually really likes the add of Castro ... apparently handle the pitchers meeting in the past setting game plans ... so very capable of running the show and grasping the pitchers needs / skills
3. And out of nowhere, he praised Morejon after seeing him work the other day ... maybe not now as a SP but in his view clearly had the stuff now for a 6th inning type to shut down the opposition.

Buck Showalter similarly was praising Castro on MLB Network. Basically, he should make that transition easy for our pitchers since he is very similar to Hedges in his defensive skills, studying opposing batter weaknesses and working a game plan for the pitching staff. See this as a valuable transition to next year/off-season, when Nola, Mejia and Campusano will have more time to work with the pitchers although the first two will probably still get some starts down the stretch. We'll see how it goes tonight.

Williams was the pitcher that blew up and couldn't find the plate after getting 2 quick outs in our 7-run comeback in the first game of the double-header. Both he and Altavilla have got to be on the back end of the relief corps. Not sure who would go down because we have many that don't have options.

OK, not Josh Hader, but Williams has more potential than Altavilla. I'm rooting for him b/c he went to High School where we live & the kids go now (Camas WA). Took them to state championship game in 2010. Went to Kent State. Drafted 4th round 400K bonus. TJ Surgery around 2014-15, so "old" when he debuted. But he did get 6 saves on a bad Mariners team this year, so there's some ability there.
His last option year was used this year. Think Altavilla has some left. They are both backfilling depth for loss of Gerardo Reyes. I have to do the math, but the roster crunch is completely solved with the only "locks" to be added: Trammell & Arias, both traded plus some other borderline guys like Potts & Rosario. Should be very easy for Pads to keep everyone into ST next year while protecting a few "far away" guys & tinkering around edges of roster. There will be LOTS of Minors FA next year in general; the Pads will definitely need some at the upper levels of Minors.

Some stats that support the move at catcher ... in 2020:
OPS / wRC+ ... player ... dWAR
.903 / 145 ... Nola ... +1.1
.707 / 98 ... Castro ... +0.2

.697 / 94 ... Torrens ... -1.0
.591 /. 62 ... Hedges ... +2.6
.331 /. -10 ... Mejia ... +0.8
So, clearly an overall upgrade on offense with still positive defense.

Nice article on the ranking of all of the prospects recently traded across MLB over the last few days. Interesting to me is where the SD prospects ranked on this list, and it was mainly out of our middle level prospects.

I'm sure glad we didn't give up much for Moreland....has he even gotten a hit yet ?
I know he knows how to drop a pop up but I thought hitting was his strong suit....just terrible
