2019 Spring Training Thread

PreviousPage 4 of 18Next

I still remember the Chile Rejones at the Aztec Dining Room in Old Town back in the 70’s!

I really like http://dillonsrestaurant.com/ ... just down on Thunderbird.

And I've heard/read good things about Casa De Falafel Restaurant - Mediterranean Grill ... it's still in Peoria, but turns out Peoria is big 🙂

My main tip for Spring Training is to go to the Padres' office and get rosters and schedule ... it will tell you what teams/levels are on what fields at what times ...

Hey Coniff, why do you say there are no best places to eat in Peoria?

Because the restaurants in Peoria are awful. They cater to 13-year-old travel baseball teams and 72-year-olds from Alberta, so you get a ton of crappy chains that focus more on fast service and reliably mediocre (and generally heavily-processed) food.

There's one not-terrible Mexican place, a third-tier island bbq place and an Italian spot that's fine if nothing interesting. And after that, Chipotle, In-N-Out and Chic-Fil-A (depending on your preferred vice) are the next best options unless you just want to sit in the air conditioning of Red Robin and drink five gallons of iced tea.

Its actually 14U travel club teams since 13U plays on 80 ft base paths and 55 ft mounds. 🙂 . I cant tell you how many of those games I have called on the back fields of the Peoria Sports Complex, and the other ST facilities in the Valley. How far do you venture away from Bell and 83rd? Do you need some suggestions for places outside of P83? I have to admit though, I do love me a steak at Texas Roadhouse, and Karly and Jesse take good care of me when I go to eat.

Distance traveled really varies. When I'm out there in the spring, I'm usually at the complex from 8 until after 5 and just run somewhere close during the 75 minutes players are off the fields (the sandwich place over next to Home Goods tends to be my fallback because of their giant iced teas). I often stay up along the top of the 101 loop, so when I do that, heading down to Thunderbird is a pain.

Well, I would like to meet any Madfriar faithful when you are out here, so anytime you want to meet up for a tasty beverage let me know. I live 5 minutes from the complex.

For the last 5 years I thought it would be near impossible to get out to Peoria since I am in Connecticut now but I may be able to get out there after all for a day sometime between March 15 and 24 as I am making an unexpected extended trip back “home” to San Diego then. And thank God we got Manny freaking Machado!!!

Partly because I will be there and partly because it gives people time to plan.....I’d love to have a meet up next year in Peoria.

If anyone can plan ahead and make the trip let me know when works best.....I can go anytime and could plan according to how many can be there at the same time.

I know it’s a year away but......

I know I will be in Peoria the last spring training weekend in March and then settle into my seats just past the 3rd base bag field level at Petco. Getting to watch Machado up close through out the season will be awesome.

Padres are undefeated since signing Manny Machado.

+1!

Padres baseball is finally going to be exciting again and I will be losing sleep on the east coast lol. It’s looking more and more likely I’ll get out there for a game or two. Looking forward to the buzz!

I’m with you on the sleep thing.

I’m starting my own “Spring Training” to prepare myself for the season.

I really look forward to the East Coast games to get some decent shut eye.

I watch just about every game....but sometimes miss a few innings late just to wake up again in the 9th.
