2019 Spring Training Thread
Quote from David Jay on February 15, 2019, 8:59 amSure, you could put together a team of unsigned players that would have a noticeably better chance of making the playoffs than about 24 of the teams in MLB, but the calendar says the offseason is over, so here's a new thread for you to discuss all your favorite news from Spring Training.
In terms of our planned coverage, we'll get you info on the prospect minicamp when it opens next week, then we'll have on-site from the back fields in Peoria when minor league games start on 3/15 and in the final week before everyone decamps for the full-season affiliates.

Quote from Booster SD on February 15, 2019, 10:35 amSo weather for the next 10 days is supposed to stink, never getting above 65 and rain possible for 4 of the 10 days.
And even though we have a long term glaring hole at 3B, still excited to see Tatis and Urias working the middle of the diamond this spring. Guess I will have to make to long drive to the Peoria Sports Complex to see some games this year.
When does everyone come in to town this year?

Quote from MrPadre19 on February 15, 2019, 12:12 pmWish I could come this year but plan on coming next year.....which may turn out to be a better time anyway(more prospects).
I'm thinking about going to the Grapefruit league for a weekend....only a few hours drive.
Who would be your choice to see in Florida if you could?

Quote from MrPadre19 on February 16, 2019, 9:59 amYankees would be good but my experience is that it is usually overcrowded.
So many “Snowbirds” living in Fl from NY area.
Plus they’re already overwhelming popular.
A couple years ago I went to see the Pirates and Red Sox camps.
Maybe the Astros in Kissimmee would be good this time.

Quote from David Jay on February 16, 2019, 10:03 amThe Grapefruit League is so spread out, so some of it depends on how much you are willing to haul around that shithole of a state.
North of Tampa: Toronto
South of Tampa: Rays
Middle of the swamp: Astros
East coast: Mets (so you can feel okay about ownership in comparison)

Quote from fenn68 on February 17, 2019, 6:46 amUrias' hamstring ... there has been comments all winter that his hamstring his not been healing as quickly has the team would hope for ... not sure about its status now but something to watch out for this spring (and worry about).
IF there is lingering concern, will the Padres ease Urias into ST work concerned that re-injuring the hamstring could result in a very long injured list stay? IF they do ease Urias into ST, will he play enough to be ready for opening day ... or need to be optioned to AAA to get his ABs and timing.
With Kinsler around they do have the luxury of not rushing Urias and risking damaging a major asset ... let Urias be ready when he IS ready ... not going to make much difference in 2019.
Not sure what that will do for SS ... don't think they will alter the trajectory of Tatis being ticketed for AAA to start the season (another prime asset that will handled with development and the future in mind) .... so, Garcia - Guerra - Quiroz battle it out for early season SS duty? Maybe an issue with Urias motivates the Padres to do a ST signing of either Iglesias or Hechavarria ... at this stage both should be very cheap given the seem to have no teams interested.
