Other than Abrams who was on everyone's radar ... Padres have gone to the far less travelled places for their "high upside" picks and have stayed away from the big time college programs and more scouted HS players. OK with that if you are looking for the undervalued prospect.

Other than Mears as a RF ... somewhat on the normal Preller with a SS - C - CF - P and staying away from the corner INF / OF although usually more pitching ... but this draft is not pitching first crop.

Since all the teams do "reach" at some point ... no guarantee any of these guys would be around if the Padres wait ... if they like them, they just need to make their move early.

I take a totally different view of the MLB draft.  The MLB draft is so hit and miss you take the guy you love when you get a chance(for the most part).  So since I don't follow prep sports, I always hope for the high upside picks and trust that the Padres won't draft a guy unless they love him.

Hard to tell how much (if any) slot money will be stockpiled via these early picks. On the surface SHOULD be able to sign them all somewhat under slot except Abrams (and until we hear ... he may be over slot).

I expect that as usual the latter picks today will be generating some slot money (not a lot but some) that will be packaged to pursue some Day 3 hard signs ... seems to be most teams strategy. Pick 3-4 hard signs on Day 3 and try to use the under slot monies to lure 1 or 2 to sign.
