WINTER LEAGUES
Quote from fenn68 on December 10, 2019, 6:03 amOlivares is not (yet) playing winter ball. Probably ticketed for AAA and should be an OF factor for 2021 if not as a starter then a 4th OF as a RHH who is capable of playing all three OF positions.
Cordero will be interesting. Padres need someone who crushes RHP and that seems to be his profile ... if healthy. Puts the Padres in a risk/reward bet with only likely 5 OF ML slots and now (and next year) somewhat over subscribed. At least Cordero is hitting this winter.

Athletic...can play multiple OF positions and "I think" good baserunners.

I prefer Naylor and Olivares get work in at AAA for different reasons. Naylor needs OF work or should be traded IMO and Olivares could use one more year to polish his game. I would like to see an Olivares call up though.
I agree totally. Naylor most definitely needs to start the season in AAA, for two reasons. One, he needs to work on routes, jumps, and other fielding nuances where it wont cost the ML team wins, especially after the moves that have been made so far. Two, he needs to work on bringing his power from batting practice into the game. In 223 ABs, in El Paso, he only hit 10 HRs. Compared to France with 27 HRs in 296 ABs, and even Urias (not a power guy) 19 HRs in 295 ABs. Not saying that he cant get there, just that I dont want to see "on the job training" anymore in SD.

Cordero is such a wild card for SD. So many tools to drool over, just need the guy to stay healthy. Imagine what he could do if he puts it all together and finally stays healthy.

Quote from onlypads on December 10, 2019, 6:55 amIf we did platoon Cordero (RP) and Myers (LP) what would that production look like as compared to last year? I am not sure it would be telling given the small sample size anyways. Would be an expensive 20% of the time OF'er haha.
I am actually getting really excited to see how Olivares, newly acquired player 2b, and Arias develop. Could be studs.
Do you guys see any use of Mejia in OF? I think we all prefer an everyday starter that produces, but if we canr get there...can we slot him there when Hedges / Torrens play? He has the arm, somewhat fast for a catcher (idk, nothing to support this, just looks that way), and can hit.

I dont think it will be a straight L/R platoon with Cordero and Myers. Myers career splits v RH or LH pitching is pretty even. So maybe to ease Cordero back into things and for health, might see Myers in RF about 60-75% of the time, at least to start the season to see if Myers can bounce back.
I dont see Mejia getting much if any time in the OF with Pham and the other options. I possibly see some time at 1B against LHP, sitting Hosmer.

Dude lost like 30 lbs -- shreded like Terrel Owens-- and I dont know what size bat he is using but that thing looks like 40" long -- a small tree... My Darkhorse to make the roster off of ST as a RHB OF'er which we will need if Wil goes...

Wow, what a transformation. This, plus, Pham's third surgery . . . . bye, bye Tommy?
