The Pirates recalled Marcano from Double-A Altoona on Tuesday.

Marcano was hitting .250 at Altoona after hitting .230 at AAA after we traded him to Pittsburgh last year in the Frazier deal.  He remains  a prospect but likely a utility player at best.  The subsequent trade of Frazier to Seattle got us Ray Kerr, who was also called to the majors and pitched one good inning against the Dodgers on Sunday.  Kerr has had trouble with his control at El Paso but could be very good if he puts it together - much better than Hill.  We also got Rosier from Seattle in the Frazier deal.  Rosier, in his 2nd year,  has not yet hit for average, but is an on base machine at Ft. Wayne.  As the weather warms up in the midwest, I think we'll see Rosier do some damage by hitting the ball in the gaps and stealing a lot of bases.  Rosier hit .390 with a 1046 OPS at Modesto last year.  Both Kerr and Rosier are better long term prospects than Marcano is.

We also gave up Jack Suwinski in that trade and he's off to a good start in  AA, but is almost 24 and was at Altoona last year and hit .252 with 4 HRs after the trade.  Miliano, the last piece of the Frazier deal, had a 6.00+ ERA after the trade last year and has just tossed 1/3 of an inning so far giving up 3 walks along with that one out.  Both Suwinski and Miliano were Rule 5 eligibles when traded and not considered major league prospects by most baseball experts.
