Trade Possibilities

PreviousPage 5 of 27Next

Obviously the Padres feel differently.

speaking of trades....

4.5 0ut in the West on 6/4/18

Would a trade for a Chris Archer (helps us now and in the Future/under control and low cost top of the rotation/1-2 type) be the right move to make now?

Would a Naylor/Nix/Reyes/Maton type package be good enough.. MLB ready or near ready stable of youngsters... to get it done..

Why TB does it-- they get a nice haul of mlb ready kids

why we do it-- glut of talent in OF/1B and does not affect "the plan" much

The Padres are not in contention for the playoffs.

They're 4.5 out with Joey..Hedges and Myers on the shelf..they get Archer and Joey back...now you have Ross/Lyles/Archer /Joey and Richard ...that's not great..but its pretty solid 1-5...which we haven't had all yr..... Team starting to score too..add Urias >anyone we have now at 2B... And Myers to the equation...and not great but the rest of the West is not good either...we have a chance... Fans get hopes up a little..revenue goes up a little

Besides the Archer trade is not necessarily all in for this year...it is a play to help out a little now...with an eye at 2019..2020 and 2021 at an annual avg of around $9..$9.5 mil or so for a TOR/#2 type....

I call it a 2 for 1 investment..1 2018 maybe sneak in...2 solid arm we will need to add at some point in 19 or 20 anyway...why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone...

Not a chance....why give up a stable of major league ready kids?

If it was the one piece needed like a Kevin Brown type deal..maybe but Archer is not a Kevin Brown

Plus the Rays have Jake Bauers about ready at 1B.

Kevin Brown was a 2 month rental... Archer would be the staffs Ace until someone takes hia place for 3 1/2 more seasons.....Not anything alike.... Just another piece to the 25 man puzzle that leads us to #playoffs soon ...

Reyes LF..Naylor DH ..Bauers 1B... There is still room for all that in TB...where does Reyes and Naylor play in SD..when  Myers..Franchy get healthy? Or in Naylors case with Myers and Hosmer here

I’ve got no problem trading them.

My main issue is Archers regression the last couple seasons.....is he really gonna be an Ace for us for the next 3 seasons?

As deep as our system is it is about time we “do” start moving some depth for ML talent.

Probably won’t start though until next off season.

A) Chris Archer is a league average pitcher. The asking price for him will be way, way higher than it should be. He will not significantly improve this team.

B) Kevin Brown was MUCH better than a league average pitcher. When we acquired him as a 1 SEASON rental (not 2 months), he was the final piece to an NL championship. We are much farther away from another pennant than a Kevin Brown, let alone a Chris Archer. Acquiring him would be a complete waste of resources.

That sounds like a good way to screw the franchise just to move the draft pick a little later in the round.

You've identified several major leaguers to build around out of this group of players while having them play below average across the board? If we can't identify who our future is, how do you trade away guys that could be our future to fill a roster spot on a below average team?
