For career

Archer---3.69 era...Peavy 3.63
Archer BAA--.238...Peavy .239

Archer H/IP--.90..Peavy .89

Yes this includes the end of Peavys' career...but I propose that Archer could very well still have 3-5 years at this level or better

especially now with the change of scenery and leagues.

Bottom line....it's not that far fetched that Archers' career will equal Jakes.

P.S.....Archer has averaged 1 HR every 9.08 innings pitched.....Jake Peavy?

1 HR every 9.17 innings pitched.

Archer gives up alot of homeruns because he pitches alot of innings.

#1 Archer is still pitching and you have to compare their careers......you can't just count Peavy in S.D.

Second...why wouldn't he be better in the NL and Petco versus the AL(with the DH) and out of the AL East?

Are you suggesting the DH makes no difference?

Or are you suggesting the offenses in the AL East aren't any better than those in the NL West...especially over the last 4-5 seasons?

The top "four" teams in runs scored this season are all AL teams and 2 of the top 3 are in Archers Division.

The top "five" teams in homeruns this season are all in the AL and two are in the Rays division.

Only "two" of the top "twenty" teams in OBP are in the NL West and they are 10th and 11th.

Lsstly...even if it is obvious that Peavy was better than Archer is now(juries still out IMO) are you really saying that my point isn't valid because of ONE pitcher in 40 seasons?

I'm suggesting that it's one thing to assert he'd be better and an entirely different thing to say he'd be a full run better. You cannot assume that.

And great job on comparing surface level statistics! Let's ignore advanced metrics that show how much better Peavy was (or how relatively pedestrian Archer ACTUALLY is).

Well,if I had actually said he would be a full run lower your point would mean more.

I actually said a "full 1/2 a run better".

And forgive this old man for not being an expert on advanced metrics.

I guess we'll just have to see how Archer does over the next three years.

I'm fine with "whiffing" on Archer as well...but I'm sure there's more to our attempt at acquiring him then just the number of wins Archer would have added over the next 3 seasons.

By the way....for $9 mil a season we aren't going to get the answer to our offensive woes either.

We certainly won't be getting a better Starter than Archer.

Without knowing what the "actual" offer was it's kind of hard to be happy we whiffed.

I trust Preller knows which prospects he will be needing to help win in the next 3 seasons and which ones he can afford to trade.

I truly think Preller understands he's gonna have to trade some of these guys soon no matter what or their value will start droping.

A guy like Naylor for instance is not likely to "gain" value when he hits the hitters paradise in AAA and is a year older.

Probably would have been most concerned about Preller accepting TB demand (whatever that really was) than what Preller may have offered (that TB clearly did not like). Pretty confident Preller was not going to "overpay".

Saw a media comment that the base demand from TB was 2 ML players and a top pitching prospect (maybe two). That fits with earlier post that suggested the demand was Hedges, Renfroe, Paddack, and Patino ... and clearly Preller did not bite.

Preller was probably more in the Mejia, Renfroe, Quantril, Patino (or similar) offer level. Guessing Hedges was a total non starter with Preller and a good chance so was Paddack. Either way not sure TB made out all that well since both Meadows and Glasnow have been sliding down the prospect scale over the past few years.

I'm with you there.

Especially on Paddack.

I do think he's going to be good....but I am just real careful anymore about getting my hopes up until it happens.

Losing Mejia would have been a blow too really considering he's an offensive C and we need offense anywhere we can get it.

I would have preferred a Renfroe-Naylor-Patino-Quantril type deal.

Positions of depth that won't hurt the rebuild.

You’re also ruling out the possibility of Paddack getting hurt.......again.

I'm not, your 5-10% mark includes it, which is what I used to get 30-60.

I think we should avoid trading with Tampa, Looking at past trades we seem to have gotten the short end.

Tyson Ross claimed by St. Louis........do we work out a trade?

Who could we expect in return?

Jordan Lyles claimed by the Brewers......Padres let him go so we now have an open roster spot.

Brett Kennedy?

Well it looks like we didn’t get anything for Ross.

So we have two roster spots open suddenly.

Kennedy gets one....who gets the other?

Wingenter?

Nix?

Urias?

Surprised. Looks like we just gave both of them away.
