Trade Possibilities
Quote from MrPadre19 on July 19, 2018, 9:16 amQuote from Booster SD on July 19, 2018, 8:52 amAs MR P asked, do we install him at 3B, or is the end for Hedges?
Hedges isn’t going anywhere IMO.
I think he will be our defense first Catcher for a long time to come.
I wonder more what this does for Austin Allen’s future with us......does he change positions?
Could he play anywhere other than 1B?

Nothing else coming back.
I’m hoping he can change positions....was looking forward to an Austin/Austin Catching platoon(Hedges/Allen)
RH/LH....Defense/Offense.
Just makes too much sense.
His stick better be really good. At this time IMO, I will say SD got the worse end of the stick in this trade. However, time will tell.

Not sure how you come to this conclusion. We got the #5 (according to KL) prospect in baseball for a rookie reliever and Hand, who has notably not pitched all that well the past few weeks.
If somehow we can get Mejia to play 3B (doesn't sound like he played that well in the AFL), then we just plugged a major hole.

Quote from sportwarrior on July 19, 2018, 10:00 amWhat a trade! A top 20 prospect and the best catching prospect in all of baseball for a couple relievers. I take that every single time.
Beyond that, Mejia himself is super exciting. A switch hitter with sneaky power, a 50 game hitting streak a couple years ago, 297/346/490 as a 21 year old in AA, and 391/421/594 since the start of June this year as a 22 year old in AAA. He's got an 80 arm and capable/improving defense behind the plate.
I'm friggin thrilled with this.

True.....but 2 on the 25 man I assume.

Quote from sportwarrior on July 19, 2018, 10:05 amAlso, you guys can almost certainly stop this 3B talk. Yeah, Hedges is likable, but at the plate he's like a high school senior taking pre-algebra for the 3rd year in a row. He just doesn't get it. I fully anticipate Hedges becomes the long term AJ Ellis on this team and that Mejia takes over the starting spot.

Quote from sportwarrior on July 19, 2018, 10:09 amAlso also, all that said, it's still sad to see Hand and Cimber go. Hand, by all accounts, loved it here and really hoped he would stay. Gotta think he signed that under market deal in anticipation of being a long term piece. And Cimber was a great story. Love watching the kid pitch and hope his success continues over in the AL.
I'm glad these two are headed to Cleveland, too. They're one of those AL teams I can easily pull for in the playoffs.
