I really like Conforto, but I don’t see the Mets dealing him anytime soon. There is no way they would do either of those deals. The return is just far too light. To get a Conforto you would have to part with at least  2 or 3 top prospects.

As I mentioned, there are two things going against the Mets and keeping Conforto. One, he is in the last two years of control and he is not getting cheaper. Which plays into the second reason. The NYM simply do not act like a NY baseball club. They dont spend a ton. They have stated they are not trading Thor, and DeGrom signed the big contract extension last season. Plus they are saddle with the Cano contract, so they are strapped for cash, thanks to Madoff. According to CBS and MLBTR they are desperate to improve defense and CF is a need of importance. And they still want/need to compete while they have DeGrom and Thor in their prime. So ML inexpensive talent might be more important than MiL prospects. So I might have to add a mid level prospect or two to my proposal.

NYM gets Gettys, Laur, Bolanos, and Lawson for SD getting Conforto.

IF the Mets put Conforto on the market ... the return would have to be substantial and a return that would help them win in 2020. A guy with a 3.5 WAR ... 2 years control ... at ONLY $9MM this year is a great value to a lot of teams who would offer more.

IF they want a CF (has to be Margot) and a rotation add (probably Luchessi) ... then maybe a good prospect.

Since I don’t think Gettys has any trade value (has not hit in the minors to hold a top prospect spot .. no one is going to bet he can even hit up to Hedges standards) .... puts Padres in the position of getting a CF (maybe Akiyama ... but no track record in the states). Follow that with Conforto being a corner OF ... need to figure out how to get rid of Renfroe or Myers ... and we have seen how the moving of Myers is not easy.

Would like a 3.5 WAR .... LHH OF but would cost a lot ...

Read a piece suggesting that Strasburg paired with Hedges would make Strasburg even better ... a lot having to do with the framing from Hedges getting better calls than WASH catchers.

When Strasburg extends with WASH .... might that be a good trade partner for Hedges since the catching is defensively challenged and the rest of the offense is strong?

I could live with shipping Margot and Luchessi, plus a prospect for Conforto. As far as Gettys is concerned; I know it was AAA, but he did hit .250 with 31 HRs. I know the OBP stinks, but in the last 90 days he went .333 BA and .400 OBP, plus all year versus LHP he had a .342 OBP, not splits.

I would be willing to start 2020 with an OF of Renfroe LF, Gettys/Akiyama CF, and Conforto RF. And if Cordero is finally healthy, then maybe a platoon of Renfroe and Cordero.

I know, a lot of unproven talent in there, but the established guys havent done much either. So time for some change.

Yeah, Myers, gotta ship him out with a sack of money and hope for a bag of chips back.

Hedges, and what for Eaton?

Just did a check in 2019 WAR using fWAR:

Conforto (3.7)

Margot (1.6) + Lucchesi (2.1) = (3.7) buy some dumb luck

Conforto is more expensive than the two combined and has shorter control  which in theory eliminates the need for any prospect to be added and may offset the argument that one 3.7 WAR player is worth more than two players totally that same WAR in terms of game impact.

Padres will not RELY on Gettys (probably would love it if he could contribute), so they would need a CF ... Akiyama would be a gamble worth taking ($6MM/2 is easy and if correct fits the new profile of a contact hitter). Guessing a lot would ride on their view of how quickly Trammell is ready (or Cordero).

Probably a quality non-roster A-ball (or lower) prospect ... likely a SP. Maybe one OF prospects since two spots (Soto and Robles) are locked in for years.

NATS will want to keep their championship team in tact ... and Eaton was a big part.

Actually a little depends on whether they also resign Rendon. Keep in mind with both Rendon and Strasburg for the NATS it is only incremental to what they were paid by the NATS in 2019 .... so the total payroll hit is not as it would be for other teams.

If they don’t sign Rendon ... might be looking for a 3B (France). Makes a slightly bigger deal base for a better prospect.

The NYM always seem to have money problems, and with the raises to many players such as DeGrom, Syndergaard, and others. According to two reports I have read, they are in desperate need of a true CFer, with non tendering Lagares. Plus they could use some bottom end SP or BP help. We are able to handle some additional salary, and need LHH OFer with good OBP ability. I propose either trade.

NYM gets either Gettys or Margot and Bolanos and SD gets Conforto

NYM gets either Gettys or Margot and Lauer and SD get Conforto.

Conforto is set to get over $9M in arb this offseason, and the NYM need to lose payroll. IMO Margot and Gettys are equal on defense (very above average) and both have different offensive potential, and NYM can handle the nominal output offensively they will provide, Gettys is the cheaper option. Conforto and Nimmo are very much the same player, Nimmo is much cheaper, the better option for NYM to keep.

So if NYM takes Gettys and either pitcher; both at league minimum, they save about $8M and improve their CF defense. SD gets a LHH RFer, that hit .257BA, .363OBP and drove in 90 runs with 33 HRs for about $8M for 2020, and is still under control for 2021. He was born on the West Coast, so maybe a potential for signing an extension.

NYM are extreme lefty based.. And in win now mode .. A Renfroe for Comforto trade would seem very fair .. Renfroe is controlled thru 2024 and Comforto 22.. Comforto is about .5 to 1 WAR better ..so pretty fair offer really.. I may be willing to include a spec like Allen to close the deal

Maybe, seeing as how we are trying to build a dominant pitching staff with young guys who will be needing all the defensive and pitch framing help they can get, we should actually keep Hedges. I personally think we will be keeping him unless we get a very good offer for him. Here is that article on how Hedges could help Strasburg btw:
