Some team like the Angels may opt for Lucchesi ... proven ML arm that is the safer bet in 2020 to bolster a terrible SP staff ... especially after going all in on offense.

On the opposite side, a Toronto, Pittsburgh, KC might prefer the upside of Quantrill and 6 years control.

In this SP market, both should have trade value and it will be interesting if either makes it to SP as a Padre.

If it is Donaldson, maybe something for Nimmo using Margot+ if comfortable with Grisham or Nimmo in CF for offense 1st.

Not going to get Conforto and don’t think they want Myers for either CF or 3B 🙂

Padres have been linked to the Indians in trade talks today. Kluber? Clevenger?

Indians been linked to a lot of teams in trade talks ... sounding as thought they are about  to pack it in and rest for the future.

Now Clevenger is the guy I would pay up a bit higher to get. 3 control years and only projected at $4.5MM with a career 3.20 ERA / 2.71 ERA last season (126 innings). Was in Cy Young discussions ... 2018 I think. TOR type. The downside he would cost a lot more in talent than Kluber who carries a $17MMish pay ... older ... coming off injury ... yet still potentially a TOR arm for 2 years.

A deal for Kluber is probably more likely with a strong prospect base.

Related rumor (and a bit hard to accept) but in the discussions with LAD on a Lindor deal (one of the best SS and MVP caliber player with 2 years control) the LAD did not want Kluber but instead want Clevenger (Cy Young caliber pitcher) BUT we’re reluctant to part with Lux, Verdugo, and one other premium prospect.

Negotiation is negotiation ... and LAD are already an elite team ... but in one deal getting a minimum of 2 year of an MVP caliber SS and a Cy Young caliber SP and not think three prospects are worth that ... ??????

If anything that stance makes a Kluber to SD deal more feasible if SD can handle the salary ... they probably have the necessary prospects below elite level to satisfy CLEVE if they take the contract.

I saw on mlbtraderumors yesterday that tons of commenters were complaining that AJ was crazy because he tried to trade Myers for Merrifield. I am sure that what truly happened was that KC probably fixated on a premium talent(probably Gore), and AJ told them that he would only do that if they took Myers entire contract as well. I cannot blame him for that. I wouldn’t either. I might not do it even IF they took Myers.

I don’t think we are going to do a major trade at this point. As much as I would love to get Clevinger, he would be worth over $300 million if he hit the market today. He is 3-5 years younger than Strasburg or Cole, and his results are in between those two. He is absolutely premium and will cost a fortune.
