Trade Deadline

PreviousPage 9 of 16Next

By the time the Padres take the field against the Diamondbacks tomorrow, we'll know exactly what moves, if any, Preller was able to accomplish.  I still think it will be modest, not involving Morejon but more likely Estrada and multiple minor league players in one or more deals.  Return will likewise be modest with the hope that the SP added will be able to give a few quality outings/innings to bridge the gap to the return of our injured pitchers.  Team recently has looked more like the team that started the season and regained a lot of confidence.  Don't think Preller will mess with the team too much.

Agree that don't expect a blockbuster using Morejon or any key ML roster players. However, he has to get at least one reliable innings eater SP now.

Based on what Stammen said today ... Pivetta and Musgrove are weeks away (just doing a short rehab in LE on Tuesday ... see how they recover ... then another before really stretching out, so getting to ML quality and eating innings will likely not be until Sept). That exposes a lot of game vs good opponents in Aug.

Couple that with Stammen's comments on moving King back a game partially being influenced by wanting to split the two starters in Buehler and King who should give innings so the others have recovery time for the heavy used arms spaced out. He also add still assessing the right timing for each arm to come back and pitch effectively. Both seem to be recognizing that this chaos pitching approach has its limits over time as pitchers burn out.

To that end, prospects may go first, out of necessity even if the return is not overwhelming.

It is said that the Padres are eying Kodai Senga and Rafael Devers.

Senga, age 33, has a 8.66 ERA this season. Although he has pitched much better in his MLB seasons prior.

Devers would be a mistake. He has a $220 million contract through 2033. Bogaerts contract was a bad one that should have never been made. The Padres should not risk bringing in another huge contract.

The Padres have rejected an offer that would have sent left-handed reliever Adrian Morejon to the Yankees in a deal for righty Adam Warren, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Sounds like it's actually River Ryan and Sheehan isn't included. I still can't believe how good of a prospect Ryan has turned into after we traded him for Matt Beaty.

Hope he doesn't turn out like Kluber or Fried.

Or Trea Turner or James Woods and CJ Abrams.  Ouch!

Thank God!

In years past he would have added Mayfield and Salas to Morejon to that deal🙄

Dude.....tell me about it.

Ouch BIG TIME!

Warren not a free agent until after the 2030 season, but not nearly enough for Morejon.  Had a decent 1st half in 2025 but since then has just been ordinary or below, would be battling to hold down the #5 spot on the roster.  If the Yankees really want Morejon, I'd accept old friend Weathers and either LaGrange or LaLane who both have decent upside.

Yeh, if you deal Morejon need at least one major upside prospect (Top 50 in my mind) along with a serviceable ML mid rotation innings eater. One for now and one for the the future.

I have no issue with landing Warren (or Weathers) but by themselves not enough to offset the value of Morejon.

Cubs acquire Gausman for two prospects.
