It will be interesting to see what they do with him. It looks like the Padres have too many players on the roster at the moment.
Can see Wagner option to AAA ... he is only 27 and has the hitting skills for a decent bench piece starting in 2026 (another league minimum type with 6 years control)

That's like 1/3 of our draft class last year. Neighbors looked good out of the bullpen and I'm quite intrigued about Hightower. Hopefully these are names we can live with.

Considering we penciled in Laureano as our starting LF next year as well, I'm good with it.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on July 31, 2025, 2:53 pmLockridge to the Brewers for Nestor Cortes.

Quote from fenn68 on July 31, 2025, 2:59 pmKeeping with the head scratcher theme ... Padres acquired Nestor Cortes (LHSP) from MILW for Brandon Lockridge
Cortes is a FA after the season but more importantly is on the 60 day IL with elbow strain (since April). I have to believe the Padres see him coming off (or at least in rehab) soon ... pitch in AAA and provide another layer of insurance for LHSP/LHRP. Has not been good for years ... so?
Lockridge has been supplanted by Johnson as the 5th OF.

He actually had a good year in 2024. Threw 174 IP with 162Ks and a 3.77 ERA in the AL East, very difficult parks for pitching.

Quote from fenn68 on July 31, 2025, 3:07 pmMaybe useful
Nestor Cortes is nearing a return to the Milwaukee Brewersafter recovering from a left elbow flexor strain. He recently completed a fourth and likely final rehab start for Triple-A Nashville, pitching 5 2/3 innings, giving up two runs (one earned), and striking out nine. The Brewers are now deciding on the next steps for Cortes, who could potentially join the starting rotation or work in long relief.
LH in the pen over either Matsui or Peralta? Unless one is a last second move ... hard to see who goes.
