Trade Deadline

PreviousPage 26 of 28Next

And can someone explain Wolf for Hill? 24 year old LH starting pitcher for a 43 year old LH starting pitcher?

Jesus, Preller must be SUPER desperate, realising his a** is grass in 2 months time.

Going to regret getting absolutely ZERO for 5 inning Snell and Never 3 in a row Hader.

So the top prospects we sent out were all SP: Weathers, Williams & Wolf at this year's trade deadline.  Here's hoping none of them come back to bit us in the behind and that the adds of Hill, Choi, Barlow and Cooper make a difference in this year's playoff run.  Go Pads!

Now it is being reported that RP Jesus Rios was also in the Barlow deal also.  Another lottery ticket.

Guy I hated to lose was Williams.  You could see the flashes of something special in his coming back from TJ surgery.  Looks like a solid #3, possibly 2, if he fully recovers from the surgery.  Weathers was a reach when he was drafted and has never really put it together; his best chance will be out of the pen as a long man.  Wolf was making progress but will never be more than a #5 starter, if that.  Another long relief prospect out of the pen.

Barlow has been hurt this year but was very good in his two previous years.  Won't have to close but a solid option along with Suarez in the second half in high leverage situations.  Allows us to spot relief Garcia and Honeywell and send Avila back down.  If Lugo moves to pen, even stronger.

Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think Preller is in any danger of losing his job even if we miss the playoffs.

I think (wasn’t he recently extended?) he is good through 2024.

Probably needs to make the Playoffs next year though if he wants to remain in SD.

My guess is AJ doesn’t think Wolf will be more than a #4-#5 SP and won’t be a factor while this current window is open.Lugo is approaching an innings issue…needs to go to the Pen.

I’m actually happy we didn’t give up one of our top 5 prospects to get one of the better SP’s considering our SP has been great to this point as is.

Are any of the players acquired contracted for next year? Sure as hell hope not, as none are of any great value. And we'll need the 40 man spots.

To be honest, going forward, we have our 1 and 2 for the next few years( Musgrove and Darvish) so maybe having 4's and 5's isn't a bad thing? Less cost, younger, more control?

We all agree youth, controllability, and cost are imperative in the foreseeable future. No need shipping it out for, what, a run at the last wild card spot that won't materialise? This team can't win in the clutch( what, MLB's worst record in close games?), in extra innings( 0'fer so far), or hit with RISP( still at the Mendoza line?), and lately, hold on to baseballs.

As a fan, I ALWAYS have hope but I think this year, hope has already left town.

Reynolds kid looks at least intriguing.

Bloody huge! And a SoCal kid so he's got that going for him.

So basically we traded 4 young pitchers for 1 young pitcher, for 2024?

After watching last night's latest debacle( and dozens before), 2023 is done.

Scott Barlow is Arb eligible again next season…so should be a Padre.

He’s also a very good pitcher….he’s been hurt this year so I would not judge him on just his 23’ stats.

Certainly needs to take Garcia or Honeywells spot…..those guys are killing us.
