This is another tale of a prized prospect not panning out. I remember there was almost a riot on this board when he was traded.

No idea the real number but I’ll guess that Preller has traded approx 60 prospects.

How many do we truly wish we had right now or hadn’t traded?

5 maybe?

This is why I will always prefer to trade prospects for established ML players.

Despite the fact it hasn’t turned into a dominant team this year.

Still the best way to build talent on the “major league” team.

I distinctly remember about a 10 year stretch where we had a top 5 Farm system(#1 some of that time) yet the major league team stunk.I prefer this.

I guess Seidler / Preller took the position that before the season everyone saw this team as an elite World Series contender ... paid big money for these guys ... so, ride with the the current crop and if they play to expectations they will make the Wild Card ... if they don't ... any add would not be that relevant.

Then a bit of a reflection that the players available were not the compelling while the Padres just did not have much to offer beyond their top prospects (who were valued well above any potential players who were moved).

So, it is all on the  back of the big money stars to actually play quality ball.

Well unless there was a last minute deal that hasn't been reported yet it would seem that Choi and Hill are the only additions. On the one hand I'm glad we didn't trade much away with the position we're in. On the other hand if we were going to buy at all it seems like we could have been a little more aggressive. I would have rather seen them sell than be tepid buyers.

Well I spoke to soon. It looks like we picked up Garrett Cooper too.

The Padres have acquired first baseman Garrett Cooper and minor league lefty Sean Reynolds from the Marlins in exchange for left-hander Ryan Weathers, reports Craig Mish of SportsGrid and the Miami Herald.

And now we got Scott Barlow too.

Well Cooper is that RHH balance for Choi as the DH (and can play a little OF and 1B). FA after this season.

The wild card is Reynolds a RHRP in AA with a 70 FB ... was for some time a position player but not good.

All in burns Weathers.
