Top ## List

PreviousPage 15 of 20Next

I think a couple of Intl signings OFers are going to move up the top 30 quickly..especially Zavala. .LE has like 4 -6 guys who are in their 1st full season making a case to be amongst our top 15 soon too

Once Lesko/Snelling and Co. Get added it will look a little nicer...

Still having Merrill/Rosario up top makes me happy...

Don't forget Campy.  I was sorry to lose Ferguson and Rosier but you can thank Hosmer for their departure even though we did get Groome, who might still have some upside.

Zavala is by far the best lower level non-A bat in our system but Oliver Carillo is the emerging power force down in the DSL.  His power combined with a good walk rate (over 20%) makes him a very strong list candidate - it's too bad he started late with an injury.  With his chunky build, Carillo is probably a bat-first 1b/OF/DH type.  If not for his K rate, over 30%, Salinas would get some list consideration since that K rate tends to drive down his OBP/BA.  Don't forget Montesino, who is out for the year but showed an advanced bat in 2021.

Lot of other interesting candidates in the deep minors but most of the new list will be comprised of break-out players who finally seem to have figured it out, although I still don't understand why the Rays released Hollis.

I thought for sure we'd lose Merrill, who I think will be better than Victor Acosta and likely has more power potential than Abrams; I thought the Cubs would be on him for the Contreras/Happ package that didn't happen.

If we utilize he last updated list as the basis for the revised 2022 top 20 post Soto and don't include players who have already exceeded their rookie status (M Baez, J Castillo and Weathers),  most of the prospects are very far away from contributing.  The highest level position player with possible MLB potential to add is probably Hollis at SA if we categorize Kohlwey as a AAAA player; then recently promoted Fabian and Luis at FtW; Castanon, Zavala and Salinas at LE; and then way down to the ACL/DSL with guys like Carillo, Montesino, Y Rojas, Murillo, Verdugo, Munoz, Camou and J Sanabria.

With regard to pitching prospects that could be added, several are RP's who don't usually crack the upper levels.  Among the starters may be Lesko, Snelling, Lawson, Wolf, Iriarte, H Baez and Leija.  RPs could include M Lugo, Cosgrove, Mundo and Holiday.  Not a lot of experience/certainty with pitchers to be added BUT pitching prospects tend to have a lot of pop-ups so who knows how good Snider or even Justin Lopez could be?

Let's see how many of these join what's left of the last updated top 20.

I can see a few C making the list.(especially at pre opening day 2023).. maybe King ..or Ethan Salas (Intl signing to be) based on potential as neither will have much if any track record at the Pro level to start next Pro season

The negative air surrounding Campusano as a prospect is unreal. There's no guarantee that he's our #1. That's despite his improvement defensively this year. 35% caught stealing with the new rules working against him is impressive.

Merrill has some glowing peripherals that scouts will rave about. If he played all season it wouldn't be the coin toss that it is heading into the offseason reranks.

I guess I'm missing something....I know he hasn't been improving but other than his slugging %  down some his numbers are just about the same as always?

Aren't they?

What's missing are Doubles it looks like.
