As always, the BA write-up is interesting. A couple of comments:
- Campusano the best defensive catcher???? I guess that is not saying he is a good defensive catcher but the best of the Padre prospects. Very light in ranked prospects. I like the thinking he may be part of the DH (and I would include 1B) solution since most like his bat.
- 2025 line-up is always challenge to build with current players and adding legit prospects. The field players projected seem right but could debate Grisham still around and getting bumped (maybe with some others shifting positions) to make room for another prospect (maybe a Merrill).
- 2025 SP/Closer is a concern and a reflection of the lack of quality pitching prospects ... at least in their minds. The projections implies the Padres extend Musgrove (after 2022), Snell (after 2023), Lamet (after 2023), and Paddack (after 2024). Musgrove has a good chance of getting extended ... outside chance on Snell IF he has a strong 2022 (but not sure he will want to extend) ... extremely low chance they extend Lamet as the closer (injury history) ... IF none were extended ... who would be the prospects that step into those roles? Pitching development being what it is ... and three minor league seasons before 2025 ... could see some of the current prospect arms stepping up into the mid to lower rotation role ... just lacking a clear upper rotation prospect (except Gore). Gore, Weathers, Morejon, Gasser, Contreras / Martinez/Lange???? Closers come out of nowhere but Adams? Willson? Kopps? Kerr?
2025 in baseball terms is. long way off but the could see a 2022 draft pick or two be in the mix (after 2 minor league seasons if a college type) or a current DSL/ACL prospect after 3 minor league seasons.

If Esteury keeps this up that trade may end up a low key masterpiece by Preller.
Strahm was good for us…better than Maurer and Cahill.
Ruiz could end up a huge steal.

Wood has just been added to MLBPipeline’s Top 100 at #100.
Padres now have 4 on that list although getting close to having Abrams graduate (Gore has already graduated).
Merrill could be the next in line.
