San Diego Padres at New York Mets: Aug 17-19

After the 1st / 2nd innings for both SP ... really surprised both went 6 innings of very effective ball. Buehler only 2 hits / 2 runs ... somehow a "quality start".

Those 3 outs at home in the first 2 innings were costly. There was no reason to stretch it.

Hopefully this one doesn't come back to bite us in the playoff race. I saw another replay that showed Bogaerts ran through a stop sign. Tough way to lose a game.

The Padres take game 2.

Ray was better except for the 2nd inning when he walked the bases loaded.

It is Tatis who is the MVP of the game. He hits 2 HRs and an Oh Doctor! catch robbing Lindor of a grand slam, which it would be with any other Padre OFer out there.

Gotta win the rubber match tomorrow morning with King on the mound.

GO PADRES!

Sun: Mize ... 6 innings ... 3 hits ... 0 runs

Mon: Buehler ... 6 innings ...2 hits ... 2 runs

Tue: Ray ... 6 innings ...3 hits ... 1 run

It was not that long ago that getting 6 innings out of any starter was a surprise ... now not only 6 innings but 6 quality innings. Now it is up to the offense to capitalize on the SP.

Won 2 of 3 ... if they keep winning 2 of 3 the rest of the way ... playoffs.

Old friend alert…..Robert Stock.

Robert Stock ... I'm a fan ... check out his resume ...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Stock

For example ...

Baseball America rated him as the best baseball player of his age in the country when he was 13 years old in 2003, repeating that ranking again in 2004 and 2005.

Oh no!

I missed it. What happened???

3rd base coach sent Jake home on a bloop single and he was out by 5 feet.

So what does he do?

He does it again w/ Machado on the exact same bloop single with the exact same result on the very next batter.

Question: should Manny have gone to 3rd when Jake got thrown out at the plate?

Seems like we get burned by Manny's non-hustle a lot 🙁

Would have to see the entire play and where Manny was at various points. Manny really lost speed in recent years ... he is just slow these days (hustling or not). Had to worry about a cut-off of the throw and being thrown out at 3B. Play was behind him.
