San Diego Padres at Miami Marlins: July 21-23

Offense continues to struggle. Not getting that big hit with RISP from the middle of the order ... not even getting that SF or productive out.
Manny had a bad game both offensively and defensively. After a hot streak, has gone cold again. Merrill is still not up to his early season offense. Sheets is sliding down from his early season. Basically the "core 7" ... although good "overall stat lines" are not generating runs as the Padres languish in 25th place in MLB runs scored ... need runs to win.

With Tatis and Merrill struggling if any of the other guys have a bad game/series/week....the offense isn't going to produce.
Manny carried the team for a couple weeks.
We "have" to get those two hitting or we're in trouble offensively.
Without it we will be playing low scoring close games and I'll end up with a coronary.

That's what I'm counting on...that and Tatis and Merrill figuring it out.
I just hope AJ doesn't trade Leo,Kash,Bateman or Schoolcraft.
Every one else is up for grabs IMO.
edit:Don't think he can trade Schoolcraft yet...even if signed....correct?

I thought Manny was having a bad defensive season ... despite the hype by Grant (et al) on how great Manny is defensively. Trying to sell the past on now.
On the broadcast today, Grant did say the Manny's throwing error puts him at the top of the ML in errors (14) ... not just 3B but all positions.
Checked and true, plus he also has the worst fielding percentage in MLB. He is also negative in defense runs saved and outs above average. dWAR is also negative. Bottom line ... having a bad defensive season.

Ultimately we need the big money guys to step up and carry the load on offense. Having said that it's time for the Trenton Brooks experiment to end. Pinch hitting him for Diaz or Maldonado is completely pointless.

Obviously our offense, is well, offensive but Cease is as well.
If one were to put Cease and Vasquez's numbers next to one another, who is actually the better pitcher in 2025?

What is with this offense? Again they had opportunities and again they could not produce. Cease gave up only 3 runs. This is a team they should have taken at least 2. Well, the Padres lost yesterday and so did the Dodgers. Let's hope the Dodgers lose again today.
Now, the Padres have to face the tough Cardinals ion St. Louis.
