San Diego Padres at Miami Marlins: July 21-23
Quote from MrPadre19 on July 23, 2025, 12:47 pmReally getting frustrated with Arraezs' approach with 2 strikes.
He fouled off ball four TWICE instead of taking the walk and loading the bases for Manny.......Who has been our best offensive player this year.
Would have put the tying and go ahead runs in scoring position...instead he ,not surprisingly...pops out.
I'm glad he doesn't strike out a lot....but learn to talk an F'ing walk already!

He has swung at ball 4 way up or way down to many times to count, apparently he only cares about making contact.

If one were to put Cease and Vasquez's numbers next to one another, who is actually the better pitcher in 2025?
Well the comparison for Cease (who has been under achieving) should be against who replaces him not Vasquez (who seems to be achieving).
The real oddity ... if you are an analytics type ... is that Cease grades out #1 on the staff and Vasquez is last ... considering xFIP / SIERA. Frankly both are frustrating to watch. I guess that may make Cease a good trade chip for analytical based teams ... Cease's last season started slow and finished hot (ERA under 3.00). Note that MLBTrade Rumors are suggesting that at least Preller is listening to other teams who are inquiring about Cease (open to "saving" about $5MM to spend on offense). A lot may depend on how the Padres view the return of King ... and can the bridge with Pivetta - Darvish - Vasquez - Kolek - Bergert. Real shaky if King does not return effectively and any one of that 5 get injured ... next up? Waldron (hope not) - Baez - Nett - Hart ... Rich Hill is taken.
I would give 50/50 on a Cease deal in conjunction with a separate deal of offense. If they moved Cease ... should put cold water on the rumors of moving Bergert.
