Sunday, May 4 - 10:35am, TV: San Diego Cox 83
RHP Nick Pivetta(5-1, 1.78 ERA, 39 K, .169 BAA) vs LHP Andrew Heaney(2-2, 2.50 ERA, 31 K, .181 BAA)

The Padres are riding high after sweeping the Giants and moving back into 2nd place. Now, they begin a 9-game road trip against the Pirates, then head east to battle it out with the Yankees and finish in Colorado playing the Rockies, the worst team in MLB. The Padres were fortunate to miss Skenes last season and once again they will miss him again. But, they will face two LHPs. Heaney will be the toughest one.

The Padres have not done as well on the road and are 5-7. The Pirates are 7-8 at their home and 3-11 against teams over .500

Top NL West Games: Dodgers(21-10) at Braves(14-16), Rockies(6-25) at Giants(19-13), Dbacks(17-14) at Phillies(17-14)

Merrill is expected to be back for the Yankees series and Cronenworth about a week later.

Padres activate Lockridge ... option Ornelas.

Hourly weather report out of Pittsburgh indicates might be a rain delay but could get the game in after thunderstorms pass around 7pm local time.  This is kind of Dylan Cease's weather so I'm looking for a solid start from him.

Padres are pushing Pivetta back to Monday vs NYY. Sunday is a TBD.

Note that Hart is not eligible to be recalled ... option on Apr 25 so too soon for a recall (plus has yet to pitch with EP). Maybe a bullpen day (with Bergert starting and Morgan following up) but given the NYY are up next ... might not want to burn much of the pen.

I guess they could call up Kolek or Cruz ... both on the 40 man. Not seeing a non-roster option at this point (they do have an open 40 man slot).

A couple of comments made on the radio / TV broadcasts tonight on Machado:

  1. Manny's 2 HR in his first 30 games is the lowest in his career for 30 game.
  2. Manny is tied for the most "hard hit" outs in MLB this season (30 something).

Somewhat contradictory but at least a sign he may pull out of his slump given the hard hit rate. Padres need their #3 hitter to be productive.

Cease, on the other hand, still seems to have significant command issues and the hitters are just laying off.

Looks as though his "stuff" is still moving and the velocity still there ... Padres need him to be the 2024  Cease ... hope that happens sooner than later.

X-Rays negative on Tatis.

Forearm contusion.

Looks like we finally caught a break on the injury front…….still gotta be painful.

Both Arraez and Sheets had a good game. Arraez went 3 for 5 and 3 RBI and Sheets went 3 for 5, 2 RBI and a HR.
