San Diego Padres @ Pittsburgh Pirates: May 2-4

Padres best hope is PITT's offense remains bad ... they are 28th in MLB for wRC+ (80 ... 20% below average) and 29th in SLG.
Heaney should be tough on the SD offense but PITT's lack of offense (even vs Kolek) could keep it close.

Even though Morgan was sent down to open up a spot for Kolek and he wasn't put into a game during his time with the big club, look for Morgan to be the first to brought back when the need arises. He has quality stuff but Padres needed the length Kolek and Bergert provide to get through this last game with the Pirates so it was a numbers game. We should have Morejon, Peralta, Estrada and Suarez available, if necessary, for today's game.

The Padres swept the Pirates for the straight time extending their winning streak to 5.
Kolek was outstanding to today and the Padres owned Heaney.
Watch out Yankees, here come the Pads and the best BP in MLB.

Pittsburgh looked a lot like the Colorado Rockies - very bad line-up with little pop. Will be a much different story with the Yankees but we have our best going against them. GO PADRES!

The Padres are doing a lot of things right and taking advantage of the other teams making mistakes. Stephan Kolek threw a great game today and again it sure looks like AJ Preller and staff picked up a gem when they rolled the dice and got Kolek from the Mariners last year in the Rule 5 Draft. How nice would it be for him to develop into a solid 3, 4 or 5 starter in the rotation ?
28 eight years old, 6’3”, 210 pound hard throwing right hander with options...I like it. Sometimes all it takes for a young guy to breakthrough and arrive is to have a game like today and it sets the tone for him going forward...I sure hope that's the case here.

On to New York and the Yankees...Pivetta, King and Cease for our Pads is about as good as it gets for us and the Yankees counter with Rodon, Schmidt and Carrasco...winning the series is doable and if we get Merrill back I like the chances even better with that short right field wall
