San Diego Padres at St. Louis Cardinals: Aug 26-29

Man I thought they were going to do it again after Higgy tied it. Peralta would have scored easily if Arraez's ball didn't bounce over the wall earlier in the game. I was hoping it wouldn't come back to bite us. Rough night with RISP. Tough loss. Bounce back and take the series tomorrow.

Today is not a must win, but it would be nice to at least have the same distance with the Dbacks and Dodgers going into the weekend, as we know, they play a 4 game set with each other, so, one will "destroy" the other or they will split the series, so, if the Padres after today take 3 out of 4 (Tampa series and 1 vs DET) then they will make up some ground. I really wish is the Dbacks the one that beats the bums, If things go well I would like to have the Dodgers within distance once we get to the LA series the last week of the season, just to see what happens. Like fenn said, maybe I am getting ahead of myself, but still, can't help thinking about that scenario. 🙂

Going into the series I was hoping for a split but since we got at least a split after the 1st two games, I began hoping for more!  I don't disagree with Profar's decision to bunt the runner over to 3rd with no outs, because we use that strategy at times in our extra innings game - and, as Profar said, you had Croney and Machado coming up, two of our best RBI guys.

So, if we have that same kind of showing we did the 1st 3 games from the entire team, I think we take the series over a very tough St. Louis team.  Got to remember that they are still fighting for a playoff spot and looked like they were going to get in without much trouble as recent as 2 weeks ago.  Let's get to Gray early and hopefully King has the kind of game that he's fully capable of.  Go Padres!

I like small ball and agree with Sac bunts in some instances but "not" when you've already got your fastest runner in scoring position. It didn't do anything to avoid a DP and there are a dozen ways to get him over to 3b or score him by swinging away.Plus Profar has been money late in games with the score close...If Wade was on 1b....or if the hitter was McCoy or Johnson... I'd have been OK with it.

But in this case I admit I screamed a little at the TV.

The worse part is that Croney was outmatched, he didn't have a chance, like at, all.

Wasn't it Arraez on 2nd base? If so,  our fastest runner was in the dugout somewhere.

I love small ball, and with Jake and Manny coming up, it was worth a shot.

I think there was a pinch runner for Arraez, don't remember who it was, but pretty Sure Arraez was out of the game after the double

Wade ran for Arraez.

Wade ran for Arraez.

I don't get that. Arraez is faster. I think Shildt decided the Padres are going to lose before the game is over.
