13-21
Monday, May 4 - 6:45pm
RHP Randy Vasquez(3-0, 2.94 ERA, 34 K, .228 BAA) vs RHP Trevor McDonald(---, -.-- ERA, -- K, .--- BAA)Tuesday, May 5 - 6:45pm
RHP Walker Buehler(1-2, 5.40 ERA, 24 K, .279 BAA) vs RHP Logan Webb(2-3, 4.30 ERA, 38 K, .265 BAA)Wednesday, May 6 - 12:45pm
RHP Matt Waldron(0-1, 9.88 ERA, 8 K, .361 BAA) vs RHP Adrian Houser(0-3, 7.12 ERA, 16 K, .323 BAA)The Padres hit the road for a 3-game road series in San Francisco to play the Giants, who are looking to snap their 3-game losing streak. They need to play well and beat the Giants because after this series they are playing the tough Cardinals in a 4-game series at Petco Park. The Giants are last in HR, runs, and RBIs in the MLB, but have a better team BA than the Padres.
The Padres will not have to face Roupp or Ray in this series like they did a month ago when the Giants took 2 of 3. Sources and broadcasters say that Trevor McDonald is to start game 1. But, how can that be since he was optioned back to the minors on Friday and cannot be brought back until 15 days?
The Padres really need to get out of their funk and really start producing. Their production was very little or nothing in the first two games against the White Sox. Andujar and Campy are the only two Padres that have a .300+ average. Ty France has been a blessing. Castellanos and Cronenworth have the worst averages. I would like to see Song at 2nd base to see what he can do.
NL West Matchups
Dodgers(21-13) at Astros(14-21)
Dbacks(16-17) host Pirates(19-16)
Rockies(14-21) host Mets(12-22)GO PADRES!

Quote from Jeremy Hill on May 4, 2026, 6:19 amI believe that a player that was optioned can be brought back early as an injury replacement. I saw that the Giants are expected to call-up Bryce Eldridge and Jesus Rodriguez too. It looks like they'll be doing a fair amount of roster shuffling ahead of the series.

This kid was THE most exciting player in the game, what, 4 years ago? What the hell has happened???

Quote from WindsorUK on May 4, 2026, 8:57 pmNot Randy's best outing but certainly pitched well enough to win.
Short of somebody on the roster catching a lightning bolt up his back side, this team is looking sub .500 by the end of the month.

FTJ had a career year on 2021 hitting 42 HR. Has gone downhill since.
The Padres drop to 1.5 games back of the Dodgers.

Forget about the smurfs, the way they are playing they could be the less of our worries in about two weeks, I bet Stammen wishes he took the second game in Mexico more seriously, he didn't even need his best RP guys for about 4 games the next week anyway, with Buehler and Waldron the next two games they'll be very, very lucky to grab one W out of SF.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on May 5, 2026, 9:42 amI don't think Tatis is disinterested. If anything I think he cares a little too much. That's why he tinkers so much when things aren't going well. I think what looks like disinterest is really frustration manifesting.
Having watched almost every AB he's taken this year and looking at the supporting data I think it's clear what the problem is. His GB% is the highest of his career. His FB% is the lowest. His Pull% is over 15% lower than any of his previous seasons and his Oppo% is the highest of his career and about 10% higher than where he has typically sat. While he's making hard contact more often than all but 2 players in the league, he's also got the highest weak contact rate of his career. He's also been unlucky. Add that all up and it's hard to be productive.
I think Tatis is also having a hard time accepting that he's not the guy he was when he first came up anymore. Whether it's the shoulder injury, the balls not being juiced anymore, the lack of PEDs or some combination of the three he doesn't have the same kind of power he used to. I remember being in awe of how easily he seemed to be able to hit the ball out to the opposite field early in his career. I haven't felt that since his return from the suspension/injury. He still talks about wanting to drive the ball to all fields. There's nothing wrong with that. I just don't think he's quite as capable as he once was. I think he'll figure it out and get back to being the guy he's been the past few seasons. I'm not sure we'll ever see the monster he was early in his career again.

If I recall correctly, in 2021 he just didn't hit HRs, he use to hit them waaaay out, It was unbelievable, the last time I think he really crushed HR balls was in the 2024 playoffs, vs the Braves and the smurfs.
