San Diego Padres at Milwaukee Brewers: May 12-14

France, Andujar, Castellanos, and Sheets....4 after thought, bottom of the barrel free agents, without whom we are absolutely NOWHERE! Unbelievable how night in, night out, these guys come through, picking up the slack for the $20+ millionaires.

Pitching once again top notch.

We can't keep winning like this....or can we????

Once again the Padres offense was not getting it done and was looking like they were going to lose. Then they came back on a Sheets 3-run bomb and a Miller shutdown for the win.

The Padres have not yet been swept this season so far.

King was outstanding again.

Time to win the rubber match and the series.

GO PADRES!

I dont know about the rest of you; however, I am done seeing Tatis at 2B and Castellanos in RF. Tatis simply makes bad decisions on the dirt. I can think of two decisions off the top of my head that costs us two games. Quit moving your best defensive around, and Castellanos has no range in RF. They say its not messing with his head at the plate, I disagree.

If they want to go all RHH, move France to 2B, leave Sheets at 1B, and have Castellanos in LF.

I rarely accept that "tip you hat to the pitcher" analysis but last night .... Misioroski was just flat out too good for most (if not all) teams to hit. Just amazing he hit 103 on his FB into the 7th inning with a sharp slider and basically had no command issues after the first/second innings. He has been that guy all season and is looking like the Cy Young front runner.

That however should not mask the season long hitting issues from the big name players ... just a pause for last night.

I would prefer leaving Tatis in RF all the time too. Just need a better alternative at 2B than France who maybe as a 1B is now plus defense but will have zero range for 2B and questionable on turning a double play. Pitchers would strike with France at 2B and either Sheets or Castellanos or Andujar at 1B.

Not looking as though ... at this point ... Song going to hit and not sure how long the Padres will stick with him on the roster (or how long they will be without Cronenworth). If they want to gamble and prioritize offense (at least potential) over defense, down in EP is Nick Solek who has been hot. It has been awhile but he hit in the ML for Texas early in his career for about 3 years then injuries sent him on a downward spiral. Option Song and add Solek?

Hopefully Cronenworth returns healthy and that helps his offense to return.

I was going to question FTJ's role in the 5th inning last night.

On Ortiz's bunt single, my original thought was that he was slow getting to 1st but video replays show him positioned just next to 2B at the pitch so he had a long way to go?

Then on the slow chopper to Machado, Nando didn't throw the ball to 3rd to attempt to get Frelick but watching the replay, Bogaerts was really slow on his decision to cover 3rd, basically giving Frelick an open bag.

I assume they run through these drills 1,000's of time in ST, and after 4 years of playing together, Xander must know where to be in that situation?

But you're right, Nando is all sorts of f**ked up. Just leave him in RF( I thought being back on the dirt would give him a spark too) and see what happens ( still think putting him on the IL and getting him some cuts at Elsinore wouldn't hurt).

As for Castellanos, yes LF seems to be his only position.

As for 2B,  does Song look that bad at the dish? I've not seen enough of him. And I have zero confidence in Cronenworth contributing. Personally, think it's time to move on from JC. He can still field all IF positions so he must have value to someone, maybe packaged with a BP arm?

Stammen must be a magician. These guys are winning by slight of hand. While it's exciting to watch, I just can't imagine playing like this for another 120 games and getting enough wins to make it to October baseball.

Tatis has proven to be outstanding in RF. He should be kept there. That is where he is most valuable defensively. He has taken away many HRs

I would not rush to move on from Cronenworth yet as the starting 2B. Yes, a terrible start to 2026 (really don't know why). Stepping back and looking at his previous six years he was an above average hitter in all but one season (2023) using wRC+. He does provide good defense at 2B and can handle SS/1B/3B. Need to see if this first 6 weeks of 2026 is just an aberration or a new level (he is only 31 so not just turning "old").

IF (and do mean IF) he can come back from the concussion need to give him a chance to rebound. Part due to his history and part do to no clear alternatives.

Even if they wanted to move on ... no team is going to take his contract (5 years about $60MM) if they see SD giving up on him and without seeing him healthy and productive.

As for Song ... still an unknown in the US. Has not looked good in his 17 ML AB but that is really a small sample size for a player transitioning from the KBO. Stammen was a bit vague when asked why Song did not start yesterday ... I assumed it was not wanting him vs velocity but Stammen really did not say that and suggested maybe other reasons then moved on. He needs a long run in AAA to acclimate to the US (or not).

IF Machado, Tatis, and Merrill start hitting ... worry a lot less about the offense out of 2B ... if they don't ... never going to get enough offense out of 2B given the alternatives to make a difference.

Wow.... Castellanos can't even catch up to 95 mph heat right down the middle. Ouch.....

Canning has not looked good at all...when is Marquez available to come off the IL?
