Pretty sure they were at least expecting Pivetta and Musgrove to pitch this year

Hard to see Preller at fault since (as I suggested before) the team that was assembled at the start of ST (based on 2025 performance) was a playoff caliber team of proven veterans. Injuries and under performances are not on him.
Easy to suggest he should have made moves earlier ... three problems: 1) what other team is trading (or traded) anyone of substance; 2) apparently he is still under a budget limit from ownership; 3) he has nothing to trade of sufficient value to land an impact return.

Given the number of games between now and the All-Star break coupled with the short starts stressing the pen ... could see an IL stint for Vasquez allowing them to add an arm. I think Waldron may be near to coming off the IL and Jacobs is the normal yo-yo RP.
I guess a chance Fermin goes back on the IL ... foul tip to the mask again and taken out of the game ... Padres have to be careful. Campusano likely is ready to be called up (or at least close) and might provide more offense than Hunt.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on July 3, 2026, 1:06 pmHeard Stammen on the radio. Sounds like everything checked out fine with Vasquez. He sounded a lot less sure about Fermin. I wouldn't be surprised to see another concussion IL stint for him.

Yeah I saw that too. It sounds like an August return might be on the optimistic end. The way things are going we seem likely to end up sellers and that will stop us from cashing in one of our bigger chips.
