There is a reason why King was taken out, he usually loses It after 65, 70 pitches, Morejon was the right guy, Croney's error put him in a very tough spot against a tough RHB.

It seemed like King was starting to lose his command a little bit. His pitches to Mookie were way off. We've seen his command disappear in a hurry a few times this season. I'm not mad at Stammen going to Morejon at all. Cronenworth has to make that play. That was a tailor-made double play ball. What came next was entirely too predictable with the way things have gone lately.

Padres are beginning to lose touch with a playoff slot. Now one game under .500 and on a 7 game losing streak. Some other concerning observations as they go forward in the season:

  1. they are 17-10 (+7) vs AL teams but a significant losing record vs NL teams at 26-34 (-8) so not good for making up ground or if they get to the playoffs
  2. against teams with > .500 records they are 19-29 (-10) not good even if in playoffs
  3. they have 5 more losses than each of the three current wild  card teams AND those teams hold the tie breaker on the Padres .... so effectively 6 games behind
  4. they now have to pass 5 teams for a playoff slot ... making up 6 on one current wild card item is possible but outplaying five contenders is a much lower probability.

So COULD they still make the playoffs ... sure ... but the odds are severely lower now and if they don't break this losing run with a real hot streak SOON the gap (odds) may just be too great no matter how many games remain.

The homestead coming up vs AZ and TOR will be telling since both teams in the last 30 days are not that much different than SD ... all struggling to play .500 ball.

Game 3 Lineup

1. Tatis RF

2. Cronenworth 2B

3. Machado

4. Sheets LF

5. France 1B

6. Bogaerts SS

7. Merrill CF

8. Andujar DH

9. Campusano  C

Peralta P

2 come from ahead losses and a shutout? Just about what I expected.

Maybe tomorrow the team can surprise us with some inspired play?

Canning finally has an outstanding outing, his best of the season, and gets no run support. Padres are 15 games behind and 1 game behind the Dbacks.

Game 4 Lineup

1. Tatis RF

2. Cronenworth DH

3. Machado 3B

4. Sheets LF

5. France 1B

6. Merrill CF

7. Bogaerts SS

8. Song 2B

9. Campusano C

Sears P

The Padres finally beat the Dodgers. Sears was outstanding pitching 5 1-hit shutout innings.

Who would ever thought Canning and Sears would pitch well against the Dodgers.

The Padres head home to face the Dbacks.

GO PADRES!
