I'd bring up Campy at this point. Don't see much fodder in the system to give up a 7 day absence costing us a prospect.
Agree on calling up Campy and just sit him at DH ... trial by fire.
There is just a part of me that would debate also calling up McCoy for SS/2B/3B insurance for the next 7 days (maybe at the expense of Joe). With Iglesias at a 2B only Wade could come in to fill in the INF and he would have to be covered by Joe or Ornelas in CF giving some issues in LF and CF.
The only way a trade works if it is for an upgrade that benefits all of 2025 if they perceive the futures of Heyward, Gurriel, Joe, Lockridge, and Gonzalez to be bleak. We know Preller has no problem dealing prospects but at this point in the season will be hard to find a trading partner.
I'm OK with Gonzalez as the RH hitting LF.....but we need a Lefty bat for LF other than Heyward.
Would love Spencer Jones from the Yanks....:)

Ornelas? Not recommended but Sheets played a lot of RF for the CWS ... not well but ...

Quote from fenn68 on April 21, 2025, 4:38 pmI guess Maldonado works well with the pitchers ... but observing so far this season he is having a lot of trouble actually catching the ball ... be it passed balls or just not blocking pitches he should. Looking at the past three seasons his dWAR is negative ... maybe his earlier career rep (he is now 38) has faded with age. We know he can not hit with a 3 year wRC+ of 54.
With pitch com and the pitchers calling a lot of the game coupled with the underwhelming defense / hitting of Maldonado ... would the Padres be better with Campusano with his bat and maybe no worse defense?
Note that Diaz grades out much better defensively.

Quote from ultratvfan on April 21, 2025, 5:46 pmThe Padres are now tied for the NL lead and tied for MLB best record---with the Dodgers.
Vasquez has been solid this season until today. For some reason he did not have his stuff today. Gillaspie was not good and should be traded or at least part of a trade.
The offense had oportunites and could not get it done.
Pivetta on the mound. Let's win.
GO PADRES!

I agree that Gillaspie was not sharp today and Vasquez has been better and he didn't help himself today but just because a pitcher has a rough outing you don't just pull out the "Trade" card and in fact trading any pitcher right now is a fools errand...relax and let the season play for awhile...we are one month into the 2025 season and I'm just enjoying watching baseball win, lose or draw although I do enjoy the boys getting a win. Tomorrow is a new day and another opportunity with Pivetta, who I think has been very tough, on the mound...should be a fun one to watch.
Go Pads !!!

Oof, that bottom third does not look pretty.
Also, Vasquez's performance this year feels a little smoke-and-mirrors. His walk rate is out the roof and his K rate is way down. It very much felt like his ERA was entirely unsustainable.

Pivetta was outstanding saving arms for tomorrow's game. The BP continues to be solid. Suarez earns his 10th save of the season.
Kudos to Diaz' 2-run HR and McCoy's outstanding defense. However, McCoy needs to work on his offense.
Let's win the rubber match for the series.
