San Diego Padres at Cincinnati Reds: June 27-29

I knew when Suarez walked Lux putting De La Cruz on 2nd they were going to score a run.

Kolek pitched a great game.

Why in the world would Schildt take out hot hitting Bogaerts out and replace him with Wade, who is not a very good SS. Offense did have bases-loaded opportunities and could not get it done. The left 13 on base.

Now the Padres are facing the tough Phillies.

GO PADRES!

Bogaerts was pulled because he was cramping up ... just bad timing for that to occur.

Padres had numerous chances to get more runs during the game ... just did not deliver the big hit (or even a SF).

What kind of value does Suarez have on the market?

I'm happy to NOT see him closing out games going forward.

I always disliked that he is basically a one trick pony, let's capitalize before it's too late.

Not too much since most teams see his opt out clause at season end and view him as a rental. Not sure which contender needs a closer but if one did he might fetch a AA or lower prospect(s).

Not confident in him either BUT not confident in testing out new options at this juncture of the season. He does have the most saves in MLB (and few blown saves) while sitting tied for #3 in RP WAR. We will see how Shildt handles him (and the other RP) down the stretch.

I expect him to opt out and the Padres don't try to re-sign him. 2026 should be an open audition for closer ... maybe Adam and Morejon are front runners but would not rule out Estrada, Morgan (my sleeper pick), or even Reynolds. If he does not opt out (his salary drops next year from $10MM to $8MM) for some reason ... then may see the Padres try to move him and go for the younger, cheaper options in what could be a pretty crowded pen.

Suarez has been a little shaky lately. He's also leading the league in saves. He's converted 23 out of his 26 chances. With better defensive effort he might have converted 2 of the blown saves as well. 10 of the 15 earned runs he has allowed came from 2 terrible outings. For the most part he's been really good. I'm far more concerned with the offense that went 0-13 with RISP.

I know, how are they doing statwise with the bases loaded? I mean If they don't have a GS by now, my guess would be, not good.

While Suarez can only blame himself I believe we win if Wade catches that weak liner by Elly.
