Another thing is why Shildt did not keep Merrill in the 4th spot where he hits a lot better (.444 avg, 1.14 OPS) than in the 5th spot(.286 avg, .884 OPS). He needs to keep him in the 4th spot.

Really? Based off of 35 PAs this season? If you really want to make that argument at least use his career numbers. He had hit .365/.414/.635 in 71 PAs out of the 5 hole coming into the game today.

The Padres need to win tomorrow.

You’re kidding right?

Every team is going to win 50 games and lose 50 games and and it’s the 62 games in the middle that matters the most…do the math and relax. Our padres have played a whole 9 games …take a breath, have an ultra beer, dial in the game on TV and enjoy the game…it could be worse…you could be a White Sox fan

One of the ugliest 1st innings I can recall ... both teams' pitching was unacceptable in the ML. No gold stars for the defensives either.

That is 50 minutes of my life I will not get back.

Have to play in the cold (42 degrees) as a professional.

Both Hart and Gillaspie are not good pitchers. Time to bring in a solid relief pitcher.

Padres WIN UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The win is what is important ... not the quality of play ... but have to appreciate the fight back after that really really depressing start to the game.

Padres win to prevent the sweep and the Dodgers lose.

Padres BP after Gillaspie was solid. Suarez earns his 4th save of the season.

Merrill goes 2 for 5 and a 2-run bomb. Cronenworth, Sheets and Bogaerts each go 2 for 5 and 1 RBI.

Let's go to Sacramento take to care of the A's.

GO PADRES!

Just have to love the fact that these guys didn't mail it in after a rough start and just kept chipping away at it and is it just me or does it seem like Jackson Merrill always has his hand in the action?

I think everybody here would've signed an 8-2 start the season before It started, if they can take the series in Sacramento, at least we would be talking about a .500 road trip, which Is not bad If you ask me.

I think Merrill is already the heart and soul of this team. I think his attitude and love of the game is rubbing off on the whole team.

The balks were weird. I've watched the replays a couple of times and listened to the explanation and it seems very ticky tacky to me. Shildt didn't seem very happy about it in his post game comments either. I thought Gillaspie pitched decently enough after that. He could be a serviceable enough long man until Hoeing gets back. The rest of the bullpen was awesome in putting up zeroes while the boys fought back. A really nice win after a rough start.
