The balks were weird. I've watched the replays a couple of times and listened to the explanation and it seems very ticky tacky to me. Shildt didn't seem very happy about it in his post game comments either. I thought Gillaspie pitched decently enough after that. He could be a serviceable enough long man until Hoeing gets back. The rest of the bullpen was awesome in putting up zeroes while the boys fought back. A really nice win after a rough start.
Yeh, the balks were unique and that is why the umps had such a long discussion before agreeing that Gillaspie's move was a balk.
Without a real clear statement as to the issue ... I would think the double stop with his left foot during the delivery was the culprit. Since no one else I have ever seen had this issue ... it is all on Gillespie trying something "different".
Interestingly he really had no issue pitching once he stopped that delivery ... he was actually effective afterwards.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 6, 2025, 7:01 pmGritty win today in what was an ugly game all around.
Hard to watch for a while there.Gillaspie the player of the game despite the early “problem”.
Good to get the win before the trip back west.
Flying to Chi….losing 3 in the cold, and flying back would have been awful.
Now on to the AAA Park.
Good thing we have our two strikeout pitchers going next.
