Nice play by Song and Campusano 👍🏽

Song can pick it down there!

Happy Manny's is getting A LOT down time this year. Keeping him to DH'ing every week( or whatever they're doing) will pay dividends into October.

And Sung looks better every time out.

Even with this home plate ump giving King a HUGE strike zone( I'm thinking Ketel Marte must be having an affair with the umps wife!), MK is at 70 with 1 out in the 4th. Be great if he can power through 6💪🏽

A little disappointed in how flat SD looked last night, you would think they would have been a little more pumped with the two SPs added, and nobody traded off the ML roster.

Lets get ready for tonight!

Likewise. This team has historically had weird lulls on offense, but his year has been insane. Nando looked almost as lost as he did in the 2025 playoff series against the Cubs.

Vasquez pitching tonight. I would have thought Mize or Ray.

Game 2 Lineup

1. Tatis RF

2 Rengifo DH

3. Machado 3B

4. France 1B

5. Merrill CF

6. Bogaerts SS

7. Fermin C

8. Cronenworth 2B

9. Bowen LF

Vasquez P

The Padres beat the Dbacks moving them 1 game behind. A win tomorrow moves them into the 3rd wild card spot.

The Padres moved up to 10 games behind the Dodgers. They have gained 5 games on them in the last 10 days

Vasquez was surprisingly outstanding going 6IP allowing only two hits.

Machado and Merrill were the offensive stars tonight

Mize on the mound tomorrow.

GO PADRES!

Aside from Marquez that was a really good game. I still think Canning loses his spot when Ray is activated, but Marquez might have put himself back in the mix with that effort. Vasquez has looked sharp again his last few outings. I think he's done enough to reclaim a rotation spot.

Sears optioned for Mize yesterday. When they activate Ray going to be one of those tough decisions among a number of choices. Past 30 days (recency bias) could go either way with Canning having the worse ERA/WHIP but ... using small sample sizes ... Canning as a RP actually has been very effective, more so than Marquez. So, if it is between those two ... leaning on releasing Marquez.

UNLESS the phantom injury rears its head to IL Marquez or .... Peralta who has been flat out the worse RP for maybe his last 11+ appearances. Recent stronger performance by Matsui and Hart to go along with Morejon as the LH options has to put Peralta at risk.

Somewhat under reported is the performance in the past 30 days of the Padres' catching duo (each of whom many just wanted to release earlier in the season):

347/448/449 (49 AB) ... Campusano

345/367/517 (29 AB) ... Fermin

Should comment on Gage Workman who they got in the Mize trade and activated (optioned Duran). LHH SS/3B (but has played the OF) ... age 26.

Seems to be the LHH/INF version of Bowen in the RHH/OF role. Athletic and can steal bases, play good defense, has power BUT has a low hit skill with a high K rate. Was hitting well in AAA (International league).

Last year the Cubs took him in the Rule 5 ... then traded him to the CWS who later returned him to DET ... so some other teams see at least something in his skill set. Has minor league options and probably now slots well ahead of Wagner and McCoy as INF call-ups (neither of them can hit either).

Likely optioned when (if) Andujar returns.
