San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks: Aug 3-6

The Padres split. They always do with the Dbacks. They are once again one game from the wild card 3rd slot and gained a 1/2 game on the Dodgers who had the day off
The Padres and Dbacks are tied for the season series at 5-5. The next time they face each other will be the last series of the season at Petco Park.
Tomorrow Robbie Ray on the mound against the Astros. The Dbacks face off against the Dodgers in Arizona.

Not perfect but the offense looked much better ... a lot of solid contact but some very nice AZ defense and some shots that just fell short of the wall kept the Padres at 5 runs.
Pitching was to plan ... get Buehler to go as long as he can effectively the shut them down with the pen. Buehler, well, was just good enough over 4 innings to only give up 1 run while being on the edge of disaster. Stammen gets him out before a third time through the order (probably a good call).
Even though ahead by 4 ... good idea to use Morejon and Miller to close out the game. Of course to seal the win but additionally don't what them to go too long between appearances ... that extra off time can render them less effective when later used. RP need to pitch to be sharp ... just have to walk the line between too much and not enough.
1 loss more than AZ ... so time to cheer for LAD to sweep AZ this weekend and get the chance to postion into the 3rd WC slot.

I would rather root for the Dbacks. The Padres are 9 1/2 games back of the Dodgers with plenty of time to comeback and take the NL West. They have gained 6 1/2 games on the Dodgers in the last 11 days. The Dodgers suffered back to back sweeps losing 6 on a row and lost 8bif their last 10 games. Struggling Roki on the mound tonight.
The Padres are only 1 game behind the Dbacks, who play the Rockies, then go on the road to play the Braves and Red Sox after the Dodger series.
