We need to remember that he hasn't had a great deal of development time in the minors - he's getting it in San Diego! Not saying he' a number 1 or 2 in your rotation  but he certainly looks to have the stuff to be a front line pitcher.

I will admit that Lauer has been pretty good the 2 outings , I hope he keps it up and I will be glad to eat crow .

I do not understand why Pads didn't extend him before the season started?  His situation was very similar to Hand's; former DFA off the scrap heap who found a new pitch & became a dominant RP.  But Hand is a 6'3" LHP 2 yrs younger than 5' 10" RHP Yates.

Yates 1 MM+ earned last year was his career high, so just like Hand, extending & guaranteeing $$ would have been a no-brainer for him.  Think they could have gotten him for maybe 2/10 with an= 3rd yr option for 8-10 MM vs. 1 MM buyout... shorter, cheaper contract than Hand....  Now his price is simply rising by the day.  Can foresee a younger cheaper back end of a pen around Andres Munoz, Jose Castillo, & Wingenter.... but that reality feels further away than it probably is.
