Philadelphia Phillies at San Diego Padres: July 11-13

It would be nice to get the win today for a couple of reasons. One, we are 3-2 against PHI right now, sure to see them in the playoffs, and it would be nice to have the tiebreaker against them. Two, its always nice to go into the All Star break with a win, and ending the first half with a sweep and a four game winning streak would be really nice. Plus it would be nice to beat a LHSP as well.

Sheets to paternity list .... Campusano called up and at DH.

Ugly 1st inning by the Padres but total credit to Pivetta to get out of it and shut down the PHILS into the 7th.

On the downside, the idea of Campusano helping as the DH is not looking good ... 2 Ks and grounded into a double play with the go ahead run in scoring position.

The Padres lost the game but won the series. They finish the first half 52-44 and 5.5 games back of the Dodgers. This time last year they were 50-49 and 7 games back of the Dodgers at the ASB.

Pivetta was outstanding giving up no earned runs. The run given up in the 1st inning is on Machado and Arraez's botched throws.

Schildt should have left in Morejon rather then bring in Morgan. Realmuto could not hit lefties at all, but is very good at hitting righties.  I believe Schuldt mismanaged the BP today. The Padres have had opportunities and could not produce. 10 LOB is unacceptable.

After the ASB, the Padres hit the road playing with the Nationals, Marlins and Cardinals.

GO PADRES!

I was hoping for a 6-4 homestand to finish the first half, that Is what they got, so great, 👍

We took a series off of a team that had the early CY favorite and 2 lefties that should have been All-Stars starting for them. You have to be pretty happy with that result headed into the break. All things considered making it to this point in wildcard position feels pretty good. Now let's see what AJ can cook up in the next few weeks.

The series vs the PHILs clearly shows the Padres can play with the big boys ... PHIL is a very good team. They hit the All-Star brake in the 3rd Wild Card slot with one less loss than SF.

The Athletic’s Dennis Lin reports that the Padres have interest in White Sox catcher Korey Lee, who has spent much of the 2025 season either on the big league injured list or at Triple-A Charlotte.

More of a depth /  insurance target but he was a top prospect and only 27 and 5 control years ... not an elite ML hitter (still appears better than the current duo) and maybe slightly better defensively. CWS have two better catching options and added a veteran depth piece last week for AAA ... so a deal maybe in the picture. Out of minor league options in 2026 and that (with the hitting) should keep his price way down. Given the Padres 2026 mix ... the #2 catcher at worse?

As long as Lou Bob comes with him
