This is maybe where we fans are at a disadvantage in evaluation of hitters. We tend to look at the usual stats (e.g. SLG or HR) and maybe shade that with our sense of ballpark environments but the GM have more tools with computer technology.
At one simple level … take a HR hitter … all their HR can be plotted (distance, direction, loft, etc.) then “adjusted” for potentially ball park factors (reduce distance for COLO HR but add distance for PETCO HR) to a norm … take that norm and then adjust again for the potential new ballpark. At that point plot the result (distance, direction) and overlay the new ballpark. Possible a 20 HR guy is a 10 HR guy with a lot of warning track FB or just the opposite with a 10 HR guy being a 20 HR guy.
That technology can reduce the odds of being off base on the productivity on a trade/FA target. Logically there are more analytics that can be used in a similar manner making players less or more attractive to a buyer.
Pretty fair to think PETCO mutes power (marine layer, etc) … so would this analysis push Preller away from some of the power hitters and favor others? Or does it move him towards OBP / line-drive types that might play better at PETCO?
This is my Analytics...Cut Hosmer ..and we don't need much else... We need a Phil Nevin type Baller.. who plays with emotion and bravado..

Crone at 1B Batten 2B.. CJ SS (if not ready Kim)... Hosmer available to PH and that's all...
Bo Mel statement lineup... He can say whatever on the post game presser. I want to see action..words are just words.. 75mph exit velo 20 bounces to 1B is a play that needs to be made 100% of the time...

He’s been absolutely terrible.
He needs to hit AAA (AA would be better) when any one of the relievers return.
The way he was shaking his had after throwing a pitch … not a good sign.

MacKenzie Gore said he felt elbow discomfort throughout the fifth inning. "It wasn't that one pitch, which is hopefully a good thing," he said. He'll be examined by doctors after the Padres return to San Diego.

Melvin after the game said Gore's velocity has been down for a few games ... also an issue.

One way or the other, Gore may not be a 26 man option in 2022 (or an option in a trade)

Hopefully its just dead arm, since he has no history of pitching over 70+ innings in his life.
Either way, we really knew that he was about done for the balance of 2022. Just have to hope that it is not structural damage and they can rest him, and let him accrue some easier innings in either AA or AAA.
And then be fresh and ready for 2023.

Why would a major league pitcher...especially a young stud like Gore who hasn't signed his first big contract,not speak up after the "very first" pitch he felt discomfort after?
Velocity down could just be a bit of dead arm which would make sense for a guy like Gore.So this isn't on Melvin.
But after the very first feeling of discomfort he should have got off the mound.

No matter if is arm fatigue..a simple strain or TJ type... Gore should take the rest of the season OFF!...Hopefully is the former... but shut him down...period ...let him get back to it in January AZ..leading to ST...unless TJ if TJ ..get it done quickly so a chance to pitch towards August 23..but 100% be ready for 2024..also give AJP a clear goal for offseason adds

I think most motivated players are programmed to play through "discomfort" ... they probably would be highly criticized if asked out or any little pain. Actually more concerned that he did come out after experiencing enough discomfort to force him to shake his arm and wiggle his fingers. That suggest the "next level" of pain.
Tie that with the reduced velocity over the past few appearances ... he should go IL no matter the extent of the injury just to give his arm a break. Given the minor league season only has about 6 weeks ... is there any real value after the IL to send him to the minors or activate him to the ML club? Maybe a longer term IL stint and just work with the ML club for conditioning and controlled rest for that arm.
