Bogaerts (211/264/318) is not all that much worse than Manny (227/283/357) while Manny has the highest K% and second lowest BB% among qualified Padre players.  Then consider that Manny is in the clean-up position … maybe a worse impact on the team production.

Manny had a new MVP season in 2022 but dropped in production in 2023 (kept saying will rebound to back of his baseball card … did not) and in 2024 running below league average.

Manny is a big muscular guy … should we be concerned about him “aging” early … we have seen nagging injuries picking up since 2022? Should we worry about Manny’s attitude getting in the way of making adjustments … remember as he says “I am ******* Manny Machado”? Has Manny lost some focus after getting the new mega-deal after 2022 along with marriage / child with homes in MIA and SD?

Hopefully totally off base on Manny … but …

Manny is one of those players that the media (especially local) and home team fans seem to focus only on the good and gloss over the flaws. Not uncommon phenomenon but dangerous in decision making.

Never have been a fan personally. I guess back when the Padres initially signed him I recall some BALT reporters saying they were happy Manny was gone … I remember the line that they were “tired of his act”. Clearly he left a bad taste with the LAD fans for is lack of performance  / attitude in his short run in LA.

I guess folks can live with a lot if the player is producing … but the warts come out when not producing … seeing a lot of warts in Manny now.

To be a playoff team, you need to do two things. 1, have a winning record at home. And 2, beat the teams that you SHOULD beat.

And that is COL. They are a horrible team, and you cant let games like last night get away!

There seems to be a “new Tatis” after this PED/Injury lost 2022 … and that is not for the  good. His 2024 is not all that different from his 2023 in the various measures BUT way way different from his 2021 and prior.

Comparing post-suspension / injury vs pre-suspension / injury … consider the following:

OPS … .770 vs consistently above .900 driven by large erosion of: Hard hit %; exit velocity; barrel %; resulting in significant lower OBP and SLG.

Should we be very worried about the “new Tatis” being the real version of Tatis going forward … basically just slightly above average and not the super-star they signe to a mega-deal?

I will add (just my view) that his “enthusiasm” that highlighted the first years seems to be gone for the most part. Yea, shows up sometimes but almost seems “forced” and otherwise seems somewhere between bored and depressed.

FTJ's enthusiasm was lost when the team banished him to the OF and dropped him in the order. Period.

Kid was the most dynamic player in the MLB. Now, as you say, as is the traditional Padre way, we've taken him out of where he was successful,  to where he is less so.

I still believe he's our best SS. With Kim looking not worthy of an extension, next year would be a good time to put him back on the dirt( as you've said, no one close to being SS ready in the minors)

Back at SS, back in the leadoff spot....we'll see the old FTJ. Easier to fill RF than SS. And Arraez, like TG before him, ideal 2 hitter.

When you run the bases and field like the Bad News Bears, even easy wins get lost.

Win on the margins? Need more training in Baseball 101! Schildty should be running clinics on the basics before every game. Team is too talented to be this sloppy.
